About NOVEC Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) is an electric cooperative that sells and distributes electric energy to 177,000 customers throughout portions of six counties covering a 651 square mile service territory in Northern Virginia. NOVEC owns and operates an electric delivery system that includes 7,400 miles of distribution lines and facilities and is interconnected to the regional transmission grid. Specifically, the electric delivery system is comprised of 40 miles of transmission lines, more than 65 electric substations, 210 electric distribution circuits operating at either 34.5kV or 12.47kV and low voltage services. Internship Details We have a paid, summer internship opportunity available in our Substation Engineering department. Please see below for more information. The selected intern will be exposed to a wide variety of engineering challenges, including but not limited to, the following: Examine trends, events and adverse conditions on NOVEC's electric system. Perform routine calculations and studies under the direction of an engineer. Perform field visits and verify existing conditions/status. Develop and review material standards. Complete engineering economics based reviews of designs and standards. Complete equipment sizing evaluations. Support storm restoration efforts. Minimum Qualifications: Must be currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field in an ABET accredited program with an anticipated graduation date of December 2023 or after. Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Must have successfully completed Circuits II and Physics II (or equivalent courses). Must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the assigned work location - Manassas, Virginia. Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving history. Desired Qualifications: Previous engineering work experience or other internships. Successful completion of Power Systems Analysis (or equivalent course). Successful completion of Electromagnetics (or equivalent course). Must have a desire to pursue a career in the energy industry. Previous experience working with mapping systems.
