Western Filament is looking for a full-time Engineer to join our team. We have an opening in our engineering department that offers unique opportunities for professional growth, and more hands-on experience than most traditional engineering rolls. This position provides a high level of freedom and embraces creative solutions and outside the box thinking. This is a "kid in a candy store" opportunity, with dozens of mid to large scale engineering projects to work on. The person in this position collaborates with other departments to develop creative solutions to challenges with a focus on continuous improvement and standard work. In this roll, you will manage projects with the assistance of engineering interns and a full maintenance department. The ideal candidate will have a sense of urgency, strong problem-solving skills, and attention to detail. A strong understanding of LEAN manufacturing OR a willingness to embrace the philosophy is needed. Our focus is to produce high-quality products using synthetic fibers which are targeted for the motor manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, medical, and recreational markets. Nearly 95% of the appliances in operation today use our products and our aerospace products fly around the world and are exploring space. We are also a leading manufacturer of high-performance braided fishing lines. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Source parts and equipment Manage subcontractors Federal and State regulatory management Drive for standardization of machines and processes Trouble shoot electrical and mechanical systems Design new manufacturing processes around customer needs Product development Project planning and implementation Hours: 4/10, Monday - Thursday General requirements of engineers: Must be self-starter, with a drive to complete tasks in a timely manner. Problem solving and communication skills are essential. Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems CAD experience Ability to find answers to unique problems. Organizational skills Self-motivated Machining, welding, and PLC/computer programming are a plus, but not required. Undergraduate degree in engineering. Basic requirements of employment: Be able to stand on concrete floors for up to 3.5 hrs between breaks. Willing to adhere to company safety standards (i.e., no loose clothing/jewelry, use hearing protection, wear a hat or hair net when necessary) Be willing to get dirty. Work around various safe limit odors (solvents, coatings, lubricants, etc.) Must be 18 yrs old and have a valid driver's license or ID card and authorized to work in the US.
