ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT Since its founding in 1986, Student Sponsor Partners (SSP) has been providing private high school education and one-on-one mentorship to economically and educationally disadvantaged students across New York City. Thousands of students are supported each year by a sponsor and a mentor and attend private partner high schools throughout the five boroughs. SSP is made up of Philanthropy & Resource Development, Programs, and General Administration (Finance, HR, IT). Reporting to the VP of Programs and Corporate Partnerships, the role resides within the Programs Department. POSITION SUMMARY The Programs Department has multiple Engagement Managers - each oversees a caseload of about 250 students and is the main point of contact for their parents/guardians, mentors, and partner schools. The purpose of the Engagement Manager will be to improve student learning outcomes and facilitate engagement with the SSP program throughout high school. The Engagement Manager will be responsible for collaborating with designated school administrators and coordinators, families, mentors, and students within their caseload. This Engagement Manager is also the lead on mentorship operations - this includes mentor recruitment efforts, organizing training workshops, ensuring mentoring sessions are executed as planned, confirming that the orientation and sessions cover topics most relevant, and guiding mentorship relationships with the support of the iMentor platform and fellow Engagement Managers. The Engagement Manager will assist in reporting on and evaluating student progress and mentorship relationships. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The responsibilities of the Engagement Manager include but are not limited to: Relationship Management Maintain a positive work attitude by acting and communicating in a manner conducive to good interpersonal relations (e.g., helpful, courteous, pleasant) with students, mentors, donors, all public, co-workers and managers, in accordance with the spirit of SSP's mission. Maintain interdepartmental communication to ensure knowledge of data and school / student updates across the organization. Provide student support by determining the needs, strengths, and weaknesses of each student within caseload through assessments, conversations, and/or interviews. Create and utilize set academic progress reports and action plans. Maintain channels of communication with students, mentors, schools, and parents/guardians to support objectives. Participate in principal and/or coordinator meetings with staff and/or students. Lead academic programs and webinars to include staff, mentors/sponsors, and students. Conduct and organize trainings and capacity- building activities for students and mentors and corporate volunteers. Collaborate with students to identify career aspirations and academic goals. Collaborate with teachers, coordinators, mentors, and parents/guardians to identify ways to improve the achievement and social development of students. Document each interaction with students and mentors, or pertaining to students and/or mentors, in a timely manner on our internal case management database. Resource opportunities at the school level and within the community to provide support for students, parents/guardians, and mentors. Execute data entry projects when needed with regard to reports, entering test scores, etc. Perform other duties as assigned by the VP of Programs and Corporate Partnerships. Attend in-person staff activities, meetings, mentor pairings, school visits, mentor pitches or other inperson work as assigned. Performs additional duties as assigned. Mentorship Leadership Track Manage a mentor recruitment strategy that aims to represent the gender, racial/ethnic, and professional diversity of our mentee community and ensures each student has a mentor (incoming classes of 350+ students); monitor and evaluate progress of this effort. Identify and steward key relationships with the business community, community-based organizations, and civic groups to support mentorship. Work with corporate partnerships to drive mentor recruitment and intake. Ensure a flawless customer service experience for volunteer mentors while they are moving through SSP's recruitment and screening processes. Oversee and provide orientation and training for mentors and deliver sessions when needed. Develop forums to discuss satisfaction and engagement. Manage mentorship guidance through communications and updating the iMentor platform; both at scale and one-on-one as needed. Engage students in programs that create interaction with students and mentor. Lead info sessions or mentorship pitches to discuss mentoring at partner locations or on-site. LEADERSHIP TRACKS Each Engagement Manager has a Leadership Track with guidance from their supervisor to develop a specialty and expertise in a particular area of the organization. The different Leadership Tracks include mentorship, admissions, academics, and college and career. Each Engagement Manager will specialize in a set area and build on their expertise through trainings and certifications. The Engagement Manager will also attend trainings and build on expertise in this area to further support students. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Passionate about school-based work, supporting student emotional, physical, social, and academic well-being. Highly effective interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Excellent organizational and project management skills. Ability to work with abstract ideas and synthesize information. Strong analytical skills. Strong attention to detail. Empathic communicator who can quickly build rapport, trust, and credibility. Exercises confidentiality and discretion. Overall punctuality, dependability, and responsiveness to internal and external requests. Enthusiasm to grow and willingness take on new responsibilities as needed. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree or equivalent of 4+ years relevant work experience, including working with educators/schools. Preference for background in social work, education, non-profit or other related discipline. Must have at least two (2) years of experience in education, non-profit or social service programs. Two (2) years of volunteer and relationship management, event planning, recruitment, community giving, or program participation experience a plus. Bilingual (Spanish speaking) a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software. OTHER REQUIREMENTS Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. Evening and weekend work may be required to accommodate the schedules of the students, parents/guardians, and mentors. May need to travel to meet students and families and/or school coordinators on-site at schools.
