Department: Leisure Services / Public Facilities Job description statements are: intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this job title; not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required; and subject to change, as approved by the City Manager. Job Summary Employees in this class are under general supervision. Performs duties under supervision of Maintenance Superintendent. Work performed in executing specific tasks of a skilled nature involving electrical wiring, some of which may require advanced training and/or experience. Also performs other tasks requiring less skill in general maintenance and construction.Examples of work performed: Installs or repairs electrical outlets, lighting fixtures, timers, motors, and other electrical and motorized equipment; analyzes electrical problems on existing facilities and makes appropriate repairs; installs all new wiring for all construction for department; works closely with electrical inspector to insure all wiring and electrical projects meet state requirements; initiates all necessary inspections to electrical projects; installs breaker box panels; performs routine repairs on equipment; performs carpentry tasks in the maintenance of buildings and facilities; operates equipment; assist with departmental special events; performs related work as required. Required Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance, installation and repair of electrical systemsKnowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautionsKnowledge of electrical systems and local and state electrical codes and practicesAbility to secure and maintain State of Tennessee electrician's licenseAbility to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekendsAbility to follow oral and written instructionsAbility to operate light and heavy vehicles and equipmentAbility to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers and the public Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent and experience in electrical and general carpentry required. Must possess a valid Tennessee Driver's License. Must possess electrician's license or obtain electrician's license within six months of hire. Essential Functions Job requires good hand/eye coordination and dexterity while using tools and operating equipment. Requires knowledge of basic electrical safety methods. Work involves frequent lifting of heavy materials, frequent stooping and crouching, and other types of physical exertion. Work involves use of dangerous power tools, and work on high voltage electrical systems. Work will occasionally be from rooftops, lifts, and elevated platforms.
