Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) is a progressive member owned utility with a service area that spreads from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay. REC serves over 165,000 connections in portions of 22 Virginia counties. OVERVIEWTo ensure the safe and reliable operation of Rappahannock Electric Cooperative's electrical distribution and transmission systems in the most economical method possible through prudent and orderly planning and analysis. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES1. To assist the Director of System Planning and Engineering Design in carrying out the various duties of the Planning Engineering Department and in carrying out the various objectives of the Engineering Department and the Cooperative as a whole. This assistance includes the performance of engineering studies and generation of associated reports.2. To assist in planning for, preparing, and carrying out the Cooperative's Construction Work Plan.3. To perform system protection, and sectionalizing studies for the Cooperative's distribution and transmission system.4. To plan and carry out assigned projects and participate in system planning.5. To assist the Director of Substation/Transmission Engineering & Technical Services in providing for the engineering and design of facilities required to meet the needs of the Cooperative for orderly systemgrowth and for any additions or modifications to the Cooperative electrical delivery systems.6. To assist in the orderly transfer of designed facilities to the construction phase and/or operations phase for system improvements and/or system additions.7. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTSMust be knowledgeable of general distribution and/or transmission engineering in the areas of system coordination, system modeling and analysis, power quality analysis, and Work Plan preparation. Familiarity with spreadsheets, database programs, and engineering programs is required. Must possess basic computer skills, to include a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including, but not limited to: Outlook, Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint as required by job responsibilities. A four-year electrical engineering degree or equivalent required. A minimum of eight (8) years of utility experience in distribution and/or transmission planning engineering as well as experience in system modeling, analysis, protection, and coordination is required. PREFERRED SKILLSA Virginia Professional Engineering License (PE) desired. Knowledge in motor start calculations and generator interconnections is preferred.
