Summary Be part of a welcoming, relationship-centered early childhood program serving infants, toddlers and preschool children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. The Early Learning Center is a full day, year-round, play-based early childhood program. The Summer Support Staff position gives candidates priority to cover for classroom educators taking leave time over the summer and filling in during lunch breaks, office and team meeting times. Our highly qualified staff provides the training and support for our support staff within each classroom. This position is temporary, beginning May 6th through August 21st, 30-40 hours per week, with the possibility to become permanent. Duties Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following: Provide coverage for early educators during lunch breaks and/or other times to maintain appropriate supervision of children. Help develop and sustain safe, high-quality development and learning environments for children. Maintain a safe, secure environment for children, staff, and visitors, including knowledge of emergency procedures. Implement appropriate requirements of the Vermont Licensing regulations. Accept children unconditionally, their personalities, needs, ways in which they communicate and help them develop without judgement. Maintain play resources and other materials with assistance of the educator team. Set and maintain established expectations for children. Promote an environment that values diversity and celebrates cultural, linguistic, gender, and other individual differences in people. Keep discussion of children, families, and other staff confidential and on a professional level at all times. Ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents/guardians) The duties and responsibilities described are not a comprehensive list. Requirements Ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment Competant oral and written communication skills Responsible and reliable individual An understanding of child development Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to take an approved course online) Must clear a full background check At least 18 years of age Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED Nice To Haves The ideal candidate has experience working and caring for young children in an educational setting or enrolled in a degree program in education or a related field. Pediatric first aid and infant and child CPR certification are also a plus. About Us The Early Learning Center (ELC) is a non-profit early childhood program created in partnership with families, educators, and members of the community. The Early Learning Center is a fully licensed, center-based program located at Fort Ethan Allen in Colchester, providing care and education for 38 children ages 6 weeks through 5 years. We believe that children are competent learners from birth. We value children's natural curiosity and individual ideas and facilitate children's learning through a developmentally appropriate, play-based, emergent curriculum.
