Summary: Our Director of People & Culture (DoPC) will lead our workforce strategy with the passion, patience, technical expertise, and people skills to inspire and guide NHPR's talented team toward a collaborative culture based on trust, transparency, equity, inclusion, and accountability. Working in partnership with our staff and external resources, our director will ensure that NHPR's human resources programs and initiatives are aligned to our overall business objectives by being effective, compliant, and equitable. The DoPC reports to the President/CEO and commands a salary range of $100,000-$120,000 per year. This is a hybrid eligible role that is based in Concord, NH. Our office is a 1-hour drive from the Massachusetts state line, Dartmouth College, and both Portsmouth and Keene, NH Business Priorities: Enhance job satisfaction Improve employee engagement Drive accountability Retain top talent Advance manager and employee development Respond to evolving workplace culture The Candidate: The DoPC is a change agent who can act as a catalyst for the change management process, to help our organization transform how we operate by inspiring and influencing others. Our director is accountable for supporting manager and employee development, ensuring systems are structures are in place that enhance job satisfaction and employee engagement, designing lifecycle processes, mitigating risk, promoting health and safety, structuring compensation strategies, overseeing our current and future employment needs, and designing accountability mechanisms. They will help define and create strategies for fulfilling NHPR's organizational cultural goals, working to make NHPR an employer of choice.The successful candidate will be approachable, collaborative, empathetic, optimistic, proactive, solution-minded and an effective listener/communicator. They will have a proven track record of working successfully with creative talent and familiarity with the needs of a unionized work environment as they implement, train, and comply with the terms of a new collective bargaining agreement to ensure effective labor/management relations. They will be the primary representative in collective bargaining negotiations and will ensure compliance with these agreements.As a key member of our senior leadership, our director will help us create a vision that celebrates the joy of bringing a diverse team of talented people together in an organization dedicated to using journalism to build stronger communities. A team player who is data-driven and results-oriented, they will have the proven ability to manage data/metrics and make informed decisions. Responsibilities: Collaborates with senior leadership to understand the organization's goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention (including DEI objectives) and develops annual strategic plans and budgets to align with those objectives. Plans, leads, develops, coordinates, and implements policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support the organization's human resource needs. Guides the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, performance and talent management; training and development; recognition and morale; compensation, benefits, and leave; collective bargaining; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; and occupational health and safety. Identifies staffing and recruiting needs through a DEI lens; develops and executes best practices for hiring and talent management, including key performance indicators to measure and monitor the effectiveness of those practices. Conducts research and analysis of organizational trends, including reports and metrics from the organization's human resource information system (HRIS) or talent management system and culture surveys, and provides those data to the leadership team, staff and board for visibility and transparency regarding key performance indicators. Monitors and ensures the organization's compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance. Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and modern technologies in organizational development, employee engagement, human resources, talent management, diversity, equity and inclusion, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to the leadership team and staff. Manages the implementation of NHPR's first collective bargaining agreement and provides ongoing interpretation and administration of the final contract. Advises leadership and supervisors of unionized employees on policy and practice to ensure compliance with contract. Manages and continuously builds NHPR's relationship with union representatives. Chairs NHPR's DEI Working Group, partnering with staff to meet the goals of the organization's DEI strategic plan. Supervises and monitors HR team's productivity and provides performance evaluations, constructive feedback, mentorship, and disciplinary action when needed. Qualifications: We're looking for someone with... 7+ years of HR experience, including 5 years of management responsibilities. Bachelor's Degree preferred. HR Certification from an HR professional organization such as the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) or the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) preferred.
