About the Organization: Dolores Street Community Services (DSCS) nurtures individual wellness and cultivates collective power among low-income and immigrant communities to create a more just society. As a multi-issue, multi-strategy organization, we work to improve lives on an individual level as well as affect broader social change by engaging in advocacy and community organizing. We work together across programs to address homelessness, lack of affordable housing, and to support immigrant rights in order to meet the complex needs of our communities and collectively address the root causes of suffering and injustice. Position Summary: DSCS is seeking a Director of Development & Contract Management to execute the organization's annual fundraising plan to sustain and grow our organizational budget of more than $18 million. The Director of Development will report to and work closely with the Executive Director to identify and secure new sources of government, foundation, and corporate funding; establish an individual donor and major gifts program; lead funder and donor communications; and plan an annual gala event in the spring of 2023. The Director of Development is directly responsible for providing oversight of all revenue-generating activities and development operations in partnership with Executive Leadership, the Board of Directors, and the Development Team. Candidates who may have less years experience than required for this position, but who have a strong combination of required and preferred qualifications, may be considered for an Associate Director of Development role. We understand that no single candidate will always possess all of the required qualifications and encourage applicants to submit their materials for consideration. Responsibilities: Strategy, Leadership, and Management Create and execute an annual fundraising plan in collaboration with the Executive Director, Deputy Director, and Board of Directors, assessing progress towards goals and making strategic shifts on an ongoing basis. Provide support and coaching in fundraising to the Board Board of Directors, the Board Fundraising Committee, and staff members to achieve the agency's fundraising goals. Lead a Development Team of staff and consultants in carrying out development activities, while establishing a vision to expand the department and staff capacity in subsequent years. Participate in the agency's Strategic Leadership Team, serving as a lead resource for strategic thinking as it relates to development operations. Government Funding Maintain an existing portfolio of more than $18M in local, city government funding, while responding to new and emerging local funding opportunities as they arise. Ensure that the agency remains in compliance with grant deliverables and reporting requirements and deadlines as stipulated in existing government contracts; identify conflicts or changes requiring resolution at contract renewal; and liaise with the Finance Team to confirm processing and receipt of payments. Research opportunities for state and federal funding; respond to requests for proposals that align with the agency's mission, goals, and existing programs; and coordinate application submission in collaboration with grant writers and Development Team. Foundation and Corporate Funding Develop a prospecting tool and system to identify, research, and rate potential foundations and corporations that are in alignment with the agency's work in immigrant rights, worker's rights, and issues pertaining to shelter and housing. Respond to requests for proposals from viable foundations and corporations, and coordinate application submission in collaboration with grant writers and Development Team. Ensure that the agency remains in compliance with grant deliverables and reporting requirements and deadlines as stipulated in grant agreements; liaise with the Finance Team to confirm processing and receipt of payments; and liaise with the Communications Team to ensure proper acknowledgement of corporate grants. Individual Giving, Major Gifts, and Donor Communications Lead the Development Team in executing an individual donor program that will include three (3) giving campaigns and three (3) donor communications campaigns in the next year. Measure the success of giving campaigns in reaching fundraising goals; provide insight into giving patterns or trends; and create donor projections for the agency's budget in the upcoming year. Cultivate relationships with existing major donors and offer them opportunities to deepen their connection to the organization. Ensure the agency maintains effective systems to process gifts and acknowledge donors in a timely manner. Administrative and Operations Supervise a Development Team composed of staff and consultants, creating goals and work plans that are in alignment with the annual fundraising plan. Establish best practices for donor data entry and tracking, and monitor processes in donor management in the agency's existing database. Conduct business in accordance with the DSCS Employee Handbook, exercising sound judgment and serving the best interests of the agency and the community. Work within the framework of the agency's mission, vision, values, theory of change, and organization's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, restorative justice, trauma-informed work, and language justice. Committed to treating each community member with respect and dignity. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and as determined by the annual Fundraising Plan. Qualifications: Required 7-10 years experience in nonprofit fundraising with a focus on government and foundation grants as well as individual giving at agencies with organizational budgets greater than $5,000,000; or comparable experience in growing and diversifying revenue sources. Candidates with fewer years of experience may be considered for the Associate Director level position in cases where other qualifications are met. Demonstrated ability to respond to shifting demands and priorities with agility and grace. Experience in communicating an agency's mission and values to a wide variety of audiences, demonstrating effective interpersonal, public speaking, facilitation, and presentation skills. Ability to inspire others with respect to the agency's mission, vision, & values, commitment to equity and social justice, and intersectional work. Knowledgeable in both private grant or government contract application submissions, with an impeccable attention to detail. Extensive project management experience with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines under high-pressure situations. Preferred Background in and passion for working with low-income and immigrant communities on issues of affordable housing, land use, and/or immigrant & worker rights, with familiarity with these issues in the Mission District and San Francisco. Experience in creating annual fundraising plans, and leading and motivating fundraising teams to execute projects. Bilingual in spoken and written Spanish. Experience with donor databases, such as Raiser's Edge or similar CRM as well as Microsoft Suite, specifically Outlook, Teams, and Planner.
