POSITION OVERVIEW NBME is seeking a seasoned Director of Communications to help develop and enhance our Communications unit within the Marketing and Communications division. This is an 18-month term position with the possibility of extension. The ideal candidate will have experience working in mission-driven organizations, assessment and/or the health care industry. This role has been designated as primarily remote which means it generally does not require onsite work more than an average of 2-3 times per month and may require additional prescheduled onsite work. We're open to considering candidates in the following states: PA, NJ, DE and MD. RESPONSIBILITIES Build and manage a high-performing communications team to deliver on key initiatives. Develop and train current staff which includes a manager and two specialists. Determine optimal structure for the unit. Refine and articulate communications role within the division and the institution. Implement best practice for key areas of unit responsibilities (e.g. media relations, crisis, internal and external communication) Develop an integrated communications strategy that supports the overall organizational goals and objectives and aligns with the other units in the Marketing and Communications division. Oversee the production of communications materials, including press releases, speeches, talking points, newsletters, and relevant promotional assets. Manage media relations and serve as the media advisor. Review and advise on crisis communications plans and protocols. Determine optimal method to monitor and analyze media coverage and industry trends to inform communications strategy and messaging. Develop and manage budgets, timelines, and project plans for communications initiatives. Ensure all communications are compliant with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. QUALIFICATIONS Skills and Abilities Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong attention to detail and the ability to distill complex information into clear and concise messaging. Experience managing and mentoring communications teams. Media relations skills and experience serving as a spokesperson for an organization. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Strong project management skills and experience managing budgets and timelines. Experience 10+ years of experience in communications, with a proven track record of success in developing and executing communications strategies for mission-driven organizations and the healthcare industry. Education Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
