Department: Athletic s Reports to: Vice President of Student Affairs Work Period: 12 month Hours: Full-time Overtime: Exempt Job Grade: 10 General Summary: Provides vision, leadership and direction in the coordination of a comprehensive athletic, physical education and campus recreation programs at Agnes Scott College within the guidelines of federal, state and local laws and department, division and college policies and procedures. The director is expected to have a working knowledge of collegiate athletics and sport base programs, as well as campus recreation efforts, facilities development and management, and community partnerships. Serves as the senior leader/Athletics Director for NCAA regulations and compliance as well as a member of the Divisional leadership team. Reports to the vice president for student affairs and dean of students and works with faculty, staff, students, student athletes, the campus community, other institutions and off campus constituents. Essential Job Functions Essential Job Functions Athletics Develops the overall strategic vision for the Agnes Scott College Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation. Develops effective recruitment and retention goals and objectives, to leverage the enrollment goals of the college; implements strategies to enhance the relationship between and among the academic experience of student athletes, develops metrics for program assessment; identifies resource needs, to include staffing, up deep, enhancement, and operation of facilities. Ensures the college remains in compliance with NCAA Division Ill, CCS Rules, Title IX and other relevant rules and regulations. Oversees the documentation and submission of reports as requested by the NCAA, Collegiate Conference of the South, and the direct reports for athletics (vice president for student affairs). Supervises all aspects of the varsity athletic programs of soccer, cross-country, volleyball, basketball, softball, and tennis, unless assigned to another staff member at the director's discretion Develops, directs and manages fundraising and development efforts for the athletic department, including serving in a leadership for the Board of Advisors for Athletics. Promotes ASC athletics, ensures ongoing and positive public and community relations. Coordinates with college communications and marketing and other athletics staff to develop, direct, and manage ongoing, comprehensive marketing and branding campaign for athletics. Physical Education Supervises and innovates a physical education program centered in wellness that meets the core academic curriculum and student success goals. Works with registrar to develop and implement the physical education curriculum and schedule P. E. classes. Campus Recreation Oversees all aspects of campus recreation and well-being programs operated about of the department. Ensures partnership with relevant offices that support campus recreation and well-being initiatives Maintains partnership with any on campus providers of fitness, sports, and recreation services. Administration Oversees department staff including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, goal setting, and evaluation. Supervises utilization of the athletic facilities; recommends and reviews policies for student and community use of sports facilities. Ensures the appropriate and effective engagement of athletic training services for students in support of athletics and sport-based programs Develops, implements, and monitors fiscal planning of the department including budget management and oversight and priorities for sports camps, swimming programs, and facility rentals. Provides strategic leadership in the development of effective recruitment and retention goals and objectives, with an aim to enhance enrollment; develops strategies to enhance the relationship between and among the academic experience, the development of student athletes, develops metrics for program assessment; identifies resource needs, to include staffing, upkeep, enhancement, and operation of facilities. Oversees and develops department policies and procedures including facilities and risk management. Supervises the negotiation of financial agreements and vendor contracts for athletic and sport facilities and events. Collaborates with other departments/offices within the division, and consults as necessary with other key campus stakeholders such as academic affairs, business and finance and enrollment management. Supports and assists with campus-wide programs, including orientation and welcome week events, and similar activities. Plays an active role in conference and national affairs and maintains communication with outside organizations vital to department operations. Provides ongoing professional development opportunities for staff. Serves on college, conference, and national committees as appropriate and necessary. REQUIREMENTS Education : Undergraduate degree required; Masters Degree preferred in related field of study. Experience : Minimum of 5 to 7 years supervisory and administrative experience. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Considerable knowledge of NCAA Division Ill athletics, athletic training, coaching methods, NCAA rules and regulations. Familiarity with Agnes Scott College policies and procedures. Proficiency in budgeting, fundraising, facilities planning, and scheduling. Mastery of managing a diverse group of staff and multiple activities and programs. Good communication skills, both verbal and written. Demonstrated ability to work independently and to maintain confidentiality Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in program management including budget and facilities oversight, scheduling, marketing and social media. Commitment to the principles of Division Ill athletics, the NCAA, and the all relevant conferences. Experience and ability to oversee sports programs and personnel, sports information, sports medicine, NCAA Compliance, academic initiatives, physical education, campus recreation, facility rentals, sports camps and community programs. Excellent computer skills: Word, PowerPoint and Excel; and electronic mail and database management. Other: Irregular hours, outside work, and travel from office to other locations are required on a regular basis. Coaches must comply with all NCAA rules and regulations, and have a duty to cooperate with and furnish the NCAA and the College with truthful and accurate information regarding rules violations. Coaches may be suspended or terminated if found to be in deliberate or serious violation of NCAA regulations. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, walking, and occasional moving of light objects. Work is performed in an office.
