Director of AccountingWe are searching for an experienced Director of Accounting at our Corporate Office location. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: CompetenciesCompetencies are used to help gauge performance and success in this position. The four (4) competencies for this position are Customer Service (Internal External), Communication, Leadership, and Decision Making.Position SummaryThe Director of Accounting is responsible for directly leading the accounting function of all dealerships with a focus on profitability, internal controls, asset management, and cash planning. In addition, this role is responsible for ensuring that all financial reporting is prepared in compliance with all financial policies and other lender requirements. Core ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities described in this section are fundamental to success in this position. * Lead the Accounting Managers/Controllers in a centralized location environment including building and maintaining relationships with each store manager surrounding financial reporting. * Ensure team meets overall accounting goal of providing timely and accurate financial reporting by meeting all deadlines provided. * Recruits and grows internal accounting talent for future growth. * Develops accounting organizational strategies by contributing accounting and financial information, analysis, and recommendations for strategic thinking and direction, and establishing functional objectives in line with organizational objectives. * Establishes accounting strategies by evaluating trends, establishing key performance indicators, and designing processes to effectively run the overall financial accounting needs of the organization as related to the dealerships. * Assist finance team in annual budgeting process by providing comparison data on expense elements. * Review monthly EOM financials and internal reporting including trial balances and MIS reporting to ensure accuracy and provide analysis on expenses. * Supports organization financial objectives by providing financial analyses and recommendations to both accounting and operational teams. * Maintains sufficient funds by forecasting cash requirements and obligations including working with corporate controller on cash needs/uses. * Recommends internal control policies and procedures for all financial activities and identifies training needs surrounding these areas. * Maintains the accounting policy and procedures manual. * Ensures simple, standardized, consistent and transparent accounting across all companies while minimizing financial mistakes. * All other related duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsThe requirements listed below are the minimum degrees, certifications, knowledge, skill, and/or ability required of this position. * Undergraduate Degree in Accounting. * MBA or 10 - 15 years of combined Public Accounting and Private Industry accounting experience. * Prior management experience required. * Strong knowledge of internal controls, and financial reporting required. * Automotive industry experience preferred. * Valid driver's license without restrictions that affects your ability to operate company owned vehicle(s) and ability to maintain a clean driving record.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesThe requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. * Excellent verbal and written communications skills. * Excellent interpersonal skills; able to work effectively with a wide range of individuals. * Extensive skill in analyzing problems and developing effective solutions. * Proven ability to manage several complex projects and deliver high quality results in a timely manner. * Demonstrates resourcefulness and ability to take initiative in development and completion of projects. * Proficient in PC skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.). * Enforce safety precautions specific to work area. * Ability to set a positive example for others by consistently displaying servant leadership behaviors in daily actions and decisions.Physical RequirementsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. * While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. * The physical demands of the job include the use of hands and fingers, reaching, bending, sitting, lifting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and driving. * The employee will frequently be exposed to neck flexion/extension, head/neck rotation, awkward shoulder/arm position, frequent and or sustained awkward wrist positions. * The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. * Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. * Must be able to pass a drug/alcohol urinalysis and be able to drive a vehicle. * Must be able to drive to company locations.Working ConditionsThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those one may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. * Normal office environment and will frequently visit property sites. * While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles. * The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat or cold, toxic, or caustic chemicals and risk of electric shock.Travel RequirementsThe travel requirements described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
