Better Living specializes in the reunification of families and as a Direct Support Professional you will be an essential part of the reunification process. You will work to reunify children with parents by focusing on the core values of what makes for an enriching environment that cultivates the healthy development of a child. The Direct Support Professional role is a collaborative effort with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) in which you will track the progress of the families with which you work. Your work will set and obtain goals that allow for successful outcomes in the accomplishment of reunification in a safe, supportive, and loving home. As a member of our team, your role will be to serve as a role model and mentor to both parents and children creating pathways and achieving goals to facilitate a positive change in family dynamics which will certainly prove to be a fulfilling career. Evening and weekend availability is required. Hours will vary from week to week and day to day depending on client availability. Client schedules may not guarantee a forty-hour work week, some flexibility and an extended work week may be required to obtain full-time/forty hours. You will be trained and become proficient in the following: Assessing and planning for individual and family needs based upon goals identified. Specific knowledge in safety, normal family function, neglect, abuse, or exploitation of children. Specific knowledge in maintaining economic self-support in order to reduce or eliminate dependency. Specific knowledge in achieving or maintaining self-sufficiency, including reduction or prevention of dependency. Implements an instructional design to reach learning objectives/outcomes set forth by Department Case Workers. Provides transportation with personal vehicle to surrounding communities in conjunction with the provision of services allowed. Provide safety intervention to families and individuals when needed. Attend scheduled family meetings when assigned by Department/Case Workers or Supervisor. Must complete paid organizational new employee orientation Education/Certification Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent (required) Associate or bachelor's degree in human services field (preferred) Experience Requirements: If no bachelor's degree has been obtained, must have minimum of two years' work experience in the human service field (social work, counseling/guidance, psychology, sociology, human development, mental health education or a closely related human service field) If an associate degree has been obtained, must have minimum of one years' work experience in the human service field (social work, counseling/guidance, psychology, sociology, human development, mental health education or a closely related human service field) If bachelor's degree been obtained in the human service field (social work, counseling/guidance, psychology, sociology, human development, mental health education or a closely related human service field), no work experience required, but it is preferred Skills/Qualifications including but not limited to: Must be at least 21 years of age. Excellent writing and computer skills Excellent listening and verbal communication (including de-escalation and redirection in times of conflict) Teamwork Demonstrates understanding and empathy for others Pass a background check (Sexual Offenders Register, the Department of Health & Human Services Central Registers for Adult Protective Services and Child Abuse and Neglect, and a Criminal Background Check) Current and valid Driver's License with no more than 3 points assessed Current auto insurance that meets the minimum automobile liability and medical coverage required by Nebraska law Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Flexible Schedule Schedule: Day shift Evening shift (required) Holidays Overtime Weekend availability (required) Pay: $19.00 - $21.20/hour Without bachelor's degree - $19/hour With bachelor's degree - $20/hour Benefits: 401(k) 401(k) matching Dental insurance Employee assistance program Employee discount Flexible schedule Health insurance Life insurance Paid time off Parental leave Professional development assistance Referral program Retirement plan Vision insurance COVID-19 considerations: BLCS strives to ensure the safety of staff and families served.
