Lee Enterprises is hiring an ambitious, digitally-focused reporter to deliver hyperlocal journalism for the Hickory Daily Record in Hickory, North Carolina.The person filling this job will join a team of talented journalists who work in concert to cover Hickory, a city of 40,000 nestled in the foothills of the state, and the four surrounding counties. We are about 45 miles from Charlotte, a short drive to the mountains and approximately 4 hours from the Atlantic Ocean.The Hickory Daily Record is a place to come and grow. The last two reporters who left our team moved into coveted positions within Lee Enterprises.The right candidate will: Demonstrate an eye for enterprising story angles and the ability to write compelling features Understand how to shoot and edit video Have a passion for local news and the communities that depend on it Be able to show their ability to build an online audience Enjoy collaborating with reporters across the state to tell bigger stories and tackle significant issues Maintain high ethical standards Have a solid grasp of grammar and spelling Other things that will be helpful in this role: Ability to shoot photographs Experience in driving digital subscriptions Basic understanding of news analytics Please include with your application at least five examples that showcase your creativity and range as a journalist, including one non-writing example (podcast, video, social media post, etc.).You should consider applying if you meet most of the above qualifications.
