Description:
The Design Engineer works with cross-functional teams and on independent projects to implement new product designs & modifications to improve quality, cost, usability, and overall customer value. Design Engineer Duties Design products with input from marketing, manufacturing, purchasing, toolmaking, or packaging engineering. Design machinery, parts, assemblies and components for equipment. Create and update detailed drawings and assemblies needed for manufacturing using the company's CAD system. Consult with employees regarding engineering problems with existing tooling; interact with assembly, machine shop, service department and testing laboratory. Recommend design of new tools and engineering changes on existing tools; recommend purchase of equipment and materials as necessary. Develop and implement testing programs to evaluate the effectiveness of parts, assembles, machines or systems in house and by traveling to customers sites. Assist in preparing and updating instructional and training materials for customers use. Makes prototype models of product, functional "alpha" prototypes used for testing and for form and fit checking. Assists plant employees with design specifications, sampling and any engineering problems with existing tooling. Interacts closely and frequently with customers regarding design requirements, and with suppliers to purchase materials. Maintains engineering procedures including job log on a daily basis to ensure that changes and correct prints are recorded and approved at the proper levels. May follow the product and make requested changes and corrections throughout the life cycle of the product, that is, "cradle to grave" engineering. Design Engineer Requirements Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Technology, or 4 to 10 years of trade school, vocational education or equivalent 2-4 years of shop experience, special machining and CAD experience required 2-4 years of relevant experience in an Engineering position Able to work independently and as part of a team Able to analyze and synthesize complex concepts in technology and scientific systems; strong cognitive abilities; excellent problem-solving skills Strong collaboration and project management skills High level of verbal and written communication skills Design Engineer, Programmer, CNC, NC, sheet metal fabrication, fabricators, Solidworks, MetalSoft, AutoCAD, Lasers, EDM, Process routings, bill of materials, shop drawings, blue prints
