Summary: The Design Engineer position is based out of our corporate office in Tacoma, Washington. The Design Engineer is responsible for ensuring the overall designs are in compliance with Evergreen Fire and Security (EFS) standards and contract requirements. The Design Engineer is primarily responsible for all design work for systems prior to acceptance by the customer and transfer of responsibility to a Project Manager. The Designer will consult with customers, vendors, and management to review project needs, create pre and post designs, and determine project timeframe. Job Duties and Functions: * Design projects, review CAD drawings, review bid, and final cut build-outs for accuracy and completeness. * Evaluates electrical systems, products, components, and applications by designing and conducting research; applying knowledge of the system and their capabilities to meet Federal, State, and local regulations, code, and specifications. * Confirms system's and components' capabilities by designing testing methods; testing properties. * Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests. * Completes projects by training and guiding System Engineers, Technicians, and/or Project Managers through the design. * Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; attending system certification courses; * Maintains a library of and stay current with all applicable regulations, codes, and specifications. * Ability to multi-task several projects while still ensuring accuracy and efficiency. * Occasionally author and review estimates for EFS. * Develops pre-design bill of materials with price estimates for proposals. * May work with peer groups to ensure collaborative partnerships by working together as it relates to the development, writing, and finalizing of competitive proposals. * May be required to travel to assigned job sites to ensure company compliance, proposal delivery and customer satisfaction; Conduct in-depth site surveys. * Provides status reports as required by the Engineering Department Manager or Supervisor. * Ensures that the Project Manager understands the technical solutions sold. Provides all documentation and specification related details. * Assists Business Development in presenting technical security and integration solutions to the customer. * Ensures accurate utilization of Evergreens standardized tools and software. Experience and Skills: Position Specific Requirements: BA/BS or 7+ years of additional experience * 3+ relevant certifications * Valid driver's license and proof of minimum liability insurance * Able to meet Evergreen's standard of a clean driving record * Pass pre-employment background, federal-class drug, financial credit check and MVR screening and participate in the company's random screening process. Position Specific Preferred Requirements: PMP Certification * Microsoft Project Certification Supervisory Responsibilities: This position may have four or more direct and/or indirect supervisory responsibilities. It is the Supervisor's duty to mentor, train, develop, set direction, and support. The Supervisor will act as a communicator and will be a resource to improve processes and quality. It will also be the Supervisor's job to introduce, demonstrate, and review the Leadership Principles with their team. Work Environment: * This job operates in the office and field. This role routinely uses tools, safety equipment, computers, and phones. It may also routinely operate a vehicle or heavy machinery. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Travel: This position requires up to 25% travel. Security Clearance: Secret Clearance required Additional Requirements for Individual Role per Manager: * Experience in Fire Alarm/Life Safety Systems and/or Electronic Security Systems * Excellent computer skills (Operating Systems and troubleshooting) * Good communication skills to interface with customers and team members * Able to call and schedule appointments, follow instructions and code requirements * Attention to detail * Ability to work autonomously * Ability to work well with others and come to work with a positive attitude The above job description is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of duties and standards of the position.
