DescriptionGAI Consultants is seeking a Substation Engineering Technical Leader. This position will be involved with substation engineering and physical design, overall project management, client interaction/development, proposal preparation, technical guidance/training/mentoring of staff, design reviews, scheduling, staffing, invoicing, budget control, QA/QC enforcement and business development related to all aspects of electrical substation and protections & controls design services. The successful candidate will work on various substation and/or protection and control engineering projects including detailed design for high voltage substation projects through 500kV. Thrive in GAI's corporate culture that empowers employee advancement with support for career and professional development and engages with staff to build mutual trust and respect and consideration for diverse perspectives, people, experiences, and ideas.Duties: Manage, design and perform QA/QC checks related to technical activities including, but not limited to, the following:Development of and/or revisions to existing drawings for one lines, physical arrangement, grounding, conduit and wire schedules, bill of materials, and site development, battery sizing and equipment layout including coordinating with CAD operators to develop organized, quality CAD drawings. Integrate physical layout and design of substations to interface with protection and control drawings.Development of control and relay panel layouts including assembling the specifications.Creation of project criteria.Development of design specifications including the overall bill of materials.Design and sizing of auxiliary systems including AC/DC load centers as well as batteries and chargers.Design and sizing of conduit, cable and backup generators.Ordering long-lead item materials Mentoring and managing staff at all levels.Travelling to other offices and to meet with clients and attend project specific meetings on a regular basis.Managing tasks on multiple projects in accordance with GAI's high standards of project management.Managing and assisting with the development of scope of services and cost estimates for Substation and P&C projects.Managing and assisting with the development and presentation of qualifications.Preparing and executing an annual business plan and participating in an annual strategic business planning session. Requirements: Bachelors (B.S.) degree from an accredited college in Engineering.10 years of Substation Physical and/or Protection & Controls engineering design experience in projects ranging up to 500kVExperience with grounding software (preferred)Current Professional Engineer (PE) Certification required.Excellent communication and writing skills and strong organizational skills.Proficient in MS Office.Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and/or Microstation.Must be detail oriented and maintain professionalism at all times.
