JOB SUMMARY: Provides educational, preventive and therapeutic services administering oral hygiene. Responsible for the planning, development and implementation of patient and family hygiene programs, operational procedures in accordance with Health Center policies and patient care. Outreach programs are a large component of a Dental Hygienist for Community Health Systems. This includes time spent in the school atmosphere for the Seal-A-Smile program and Head Start activities. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Provides comprehensive dental hygiene services to infant, children and adult patients which includes taking medical history; vital signs; charting; soft tissue exam; periodontal charting; scaling and root planning; x-rays; sterilization; treatment planning for hygiene; patient education and instruction. Works cohesively with all staff to develop a comprehensive prevention based education program for patients, community organizations and schools. Corresponds directly with the Dental Director regarding treatment planning and case management issues. Works with Dental Director and staff to ensure all safety, OSHA, and Health Care Standards are being adhered to by staff and students. Works as part of a team to assure that patients are treated professionally and efficiently. Assists with strategic planning initiatives, seeing objectives and acting to ensure objectives are realized. Networks with other dentists, hygienists, and health care workers in the region to support the dental program and the Health Center as a whole. Speaks to civic and other service groups on Dental topics as requested. Participates in all safety programs which may include assignment to an emergency response team. Participates in all training programs. Actively participates and is accountable for duties assigned that support the Mission and Values of being certified as a Patient Centered Medical Home. Other duties as assigned PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : Skills/Abilities Ability and determination to efficiently carry out Community Health System, Inc. mission statement. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and public. Knowledge and excellent understanding of dental hygiene practice and protocol. Ability to constructively participate in a clinical quality improvement. Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to operate sterilizer, various dental instruments, and x-ray equipment. Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) helpful, but not required. Ability to read and respond to emails in a timely fashion. Ability to identify and maintain confidential/HIPAA information. Education Two or Four years of pre-professional or professional studies at an accredited college or university approved by the American Dental Association. Licensing Licensed in Wisconsin to practice Dental Hygiene. Related Work Experience 1-2 years' experience in health care preferred.
