Come Join Our Team! We Are Hiring! We are currently hiring a Lead Dental Assistant in Milwaukee, WI. This is a full-time position that does not require working late nights, weekends, or holidays! We provide high quality, comprehensive care to roughly 16,000 patients annually, a majority of who are low-income. No one is ever turned away from our clinics based on insurance status or ability to pay. We value a patient-centered philosophy and provide range of services that include family medicine, internal medicine, women's health, urgent care, dental, radiology and integrated behavioral health. We also offer supportive services such as case management, health education and benefits enrollment. JOB SUMMARY Under the direct supervision of the Dental Supervisor, performs various dental procedures and tasks including sterilization, lab work and chair side assisting as directed by the Dentist. Also, the Lead Dental Assistant will perform light clerical duties as assigned. The role of a Lead Dental Assistant is to provide oversight, leadership, and mentorship to fellow dental assistants. To help in the department's efficiency and functionality and help it reach its goals set forth by the Dental Supervisor or Dental Director. This job description outlines the essential functions of the Lead Dental Assistant position and the core performance areas the Lead Dental Assistant is held accountable for. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Maintains necessary dental licensures and BLS certification Must complete yearly required continuing education, OSHA training and organizational trainings to advance the safety of patients, and assist with emergency management Attends and participates in organizational meetings and team huddles Is able to locate all Progressive Community Health Centers procedures and policies, and more specifically Dental Department policies, procedures, and workflows, and adheres to all expectations outlined in these documents. Is proficient with electronic dental record system, in all aspects of patient scheduling, schedule maintenance, and chart maintenance, including assistance with billing, documentation and preparation of provider orders. Contributes to excellent patient care and throughput by effectively auditing schedules ahead of time and identifying opportunities for increased efficiency and preparatory work. Contribute to efficient, patient-focused, daily clinical flow by helping manage daily provider schedule(s). Maintains operatory cleanliness and supply availability by completing daily, weekly, and monthly operatory maintenance duties, as outlined by supervisor, and in accordance with professional guidelines. Prepares patients for dental treatment by welcoming, seating and rooming them, and providing friendly, comforting service. This includes reviewing and recording pertinent contributions or changes to health histories and taking appropriate vitals prior to treatment. Is able to take radiographs, as prescribed by a dentist or according to departmental radiograph policy, with or without assistance from other dental team members Is able to make preliminary mouth models with or without assistance from other dental team members Provides chairside assistance to dentist or hygienist during all types of visit types and procedures. Cleans/Sterilizes instruments and maintains sterilization center and lab as may be assigned Assists with communication pre- and post-op instructions and facilitating proper documentation of patient education and consents KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS Understanding of dental anatomy and all dental procedures within the scope of PCHC's dental practice Understanding of OSHA-standard universal precautions and risk management for other blood or air-borne diseases. Ability to relate well to people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Ability to manage patient flow in a fast-paced clinic environment. Willingness to work flexible hours to meet patient care needs/demands. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE : High school graduate or equivalent, with completion of a Dental Assistant Certification program, from an accredited technical college or State training program. At least six months of on-the-job training and/or experience in a clinic or dentist's office. Must be CPR certified. Experience in community health, public health, or in a community hospital, a plus. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, the employee must be able to perform each essential function, as well as the physical and mental requirements satisfactorily.
