POSITION TITLE: DAYTIME LIFEGUARD DEPARTMENT: Parks & Recreation SUPERVISOR: Aquatic Manager/Aquatic Specialist/Managers/Pool manager/ Head Guard SALARY: Starting Salary $13.00 per hour LOCATION: The Pointe at Ballwin Commons JOB SUMMARY: To ensure the good will of pool patrons by maintaining a safe aquatic atmosphere. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Daytime Lifeguards will only be scheduled in between the hours of 5:30am - 1:30pm at The Pointe at Ballwin Commons. Report directly to the Aquatic Manager, Aquatic Specialist, and Pointe Manager on Duty Provide a safe aquatic environment for the public. Responsible for enforcing rules and regulations governing the conduct of pool patrons. Follow the American Red Cross Shallow Water Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED, first aid and established emergency action plan procedures developed by the department in the event of an emergency. Attendance of mandatory monthly in-service training (2 hrs. per month off peak / 4 hrs. per month peak). Maintenance and cleaning of the pool, pool deck, concessions, locker rooms, showers, rest rooms, and other areas as directed by the managers. Project a professional and healthy image through dress, behavior and attitude. Respond to all patron needs in a courteous manner and report comments/complaints to the manager on duty. Other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Must be able to lift 25 lbs. objects. Maintain a professional and mature attitude toward responsibilities, fellow staff and patrons. Work effectively with supervisors, co-workers and the public. Must be flexible to work mornings, evenings and weekends. UNIFORM & EQUIPMENT USED TO PERFORM THE JOB: Whistle, swim suit, rescue tube, resuscitation mask, automated external defibrillator, backboard, pool skimmers, and cleaning supplies. EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Must be a minimum of 15 years of age. This program was created to introduce youth to the workforce with the goal of helping them to learn proper employment skills. Trainee positions will be treated as a platform for recruiting youth to regular paying positions within the parks and recreation department. Trainee positions include North Pointe Attendant, Swim Lesson Instructor Trainee, and Counselor in Training. Regular paying positions include Lifeguard, Camp Counselor, Swim Instructor, Front Desk Employee, and Concession Stand Attendant. In accordance with state and federal wage and hour laws, The City Ballwin is exempt from paying the current state minimum wage so long as hourly wages are at least the current federal minimum wage. Trainee positions will be paid at a rate that is $2.00 less than the current state minimum wage or federal minimum wage, whichever is higher. In accordance with state and federal laws regarding youth employment, the City of Ballwin will require a work certificate to be completed by the child's parents, school, and the City of Ballwin. In some cases, a child may be required to provide two certificates, one for the school year and one for summer break. Children 14 to 15 years of age are permitted to work up to eight hours per day between 7:00 am and 9:00 pm during summer break.
