The Response Engineering and Analytical Contract (REAC) team supports EPA's Emergency Response Team (ERT) in providing 24/7/365 scientific, engineering and logistical analysis and recovery services related to emergencies and natural disasters throughout the country, such as hazardous materials spills and releases, air contamination, and other adverse impacts to the environment.The Data Validation Chemist/Analytical Subcontracting Coordinator reviews environmental analytical data in various matrices (air, soil, water) and from a wide range of analytical methods (EPA SW-846, EPA Toxic Organics, etc.). This position is a member of the Laboratory Assistance Team (LAT) and is responsible for coordinating and contracting analytical services from subcontract laboratories for REAC projects.Responsibilities: Perform critical review of laboratory analytical data packages. Data validation includes, but is not limited to, a review of raw data, sample chromatograms, initial and continuing calibrations, quality control (QC) summary forms, preparation and extraction information, Chain-of-Custody records, laboratory Case Narratives, and qualitative and quantitative assessment of results. Review environmental analytical data for completeness and compliance against analytical methods and quality assurance project plans (QAPPs). Review QC samples and apply data validation qualifiers to sample results as appropriate. Perform data validation on schedule and within budget. Perform pre-screening and qualification of subcontract laboratories by reviewing laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs), laboratory quality manual, laboratory certifications and accreditations, and analytical pricing. Contract and coordinate with analytical laboratories for REAC projects. Work independently on administrative and technical tasks. Qualifications: B.S. or B.A. degree in Chemistry or in a closely related scientific discipline is required. Minimum of 5-8 years of experience performing analytical data validation, preparing laboratory data packages for clients and/or analyzing samples in a commercial analytical laboratory. Understanding of U.S. EPA data validation guidelines and environmental analytical methods. Ability to follow SOPs and perform mathematical calculations. Possess a current Medical Certification or be able to receive one.
