Description:
The Cost Analyst is responsible for preparing, analyzing, and presenting operating results of Placon. Responsibilities also include identifying operational opportunities by performing advanced ad-hoc analysis. When necessary mines data from multiple sources, such as sales, production, accounting, or vendors and subsequent analysis of that data to produce business information used to support decisions. Assists in compiling the annual financial plan and maintains business systems to support company objectives. Essential Accountabilities Key business support analyst for operations and special projects. Plans, studies and collects data to determine costs of business activity such as raw materials, inventory, labor and overheads. Analyzes changes in product design, raw materials, and manufacturing methods, to determine effects on costs. Assist in analyzing standards and actual manufacturing costs and prepares periodic reports comparing standards costs to actual production costs. Verifies the accuracy of inventory transactions including material usage, scrap and cycle count postings. Develops and implements cost accounting practices for inventory, production, and purchasing. Works with sales and operations planning team to understand capacity availability at manufacturing locations for use in determining overhead activity rates. Calculates and documents slow moving and obsolete inventory reserves. Assists with the preparation and development of the annual financial plan. Conducts financial analysis for operating platforms, product lines, and customers. Reports on key business financial metrics both Balance Sheet and Income Statement. Assists in the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures. Supports external audits and requests (bank, tax, insurance) with appropriate planning and documentation. Reviews and verifies the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records as well as posting entries. Reconciles assigned trial balance accounts. Participates and, as necessary, leads process improvements in support of departmental and company objectives. Provides support and/or backup to other accounting duties i.e., sales and/or purchase analysis, project and tool accounting, and advanced financial modeling. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance and 2 - 5 years of manufacturing accounting experience. Desired Skills Proficient using ERP system (Oracle) and personal computers including Microsoft OfficeCPA and/or CMA is a plusCost accounting and engineering passionData entry, reporting and analysis skillsCommunication and listening skills across multiple departments and leadership levelsSchedule flexibility - meet required reporting and project due datesAble to manage multiple projects on an on-going basisSelf-directed with ability to research and/or work without close directionFamiliar with problem solving and continuous improvement techniquesOrganizational, planning, and project management skillsAbility to read and interpret bill of materials, routings, and engineering change orders.
