About Us: Center of L i fe is a community empowerment organization located in the Hazelwood community in Pittsburgh. Center of Life offers various programs and services that support our community, including an after-school homew ork and enrichment program, teen hip-hop and jazz programs, and family and community engagement program ming . Center of Life is currently looking to expand our reach and impact by implement ing a new Volunteer Program. Position Overview: The Volunteer Program is a new Center of Life (COL) initiative with the goal of leveraging our large network of supporters to provide practical assistance to Center of Life's programs and events. The Volunteer Program Coordinator will have the opportunity to shape the future of the new Volunteer Program and will be responsible for its oversight and management . Responsibilities include volunteer program development and design, working with COL programs and operations to understand volunteer needs, and managing all aspects of volunteer recruitment, orientation, placement, scheduling, and communication. Volunteer activities will likely includ e tutoring and homework help shifts, chaperoning field trips, event coordination and set up, and resource distribution support. This position will operate on a part-time basis with flexible hours to match the varied schedules of Center of Life's programs and events. This position has the potential to expand to a full-time role should the program necessitate . The Volunteer Program Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that the Volunteer Program meets the needs of the organization and its beneficiaries . Th e ideal candidate has strong organization, communication, and problem-solving skills, is familiar with non-profit programming, has excellent interpersonal skills, and is very motivated to make a positive impact in the community through community development and youth empowerment. Essential Goals : Develop and implement the systems and structure nec essary fo r operating a sustainable volunteer program , with support from Director of Operations Establish strong relationships with universities, service organizations (such as sororities and fraternities) , businesses, the foundation community, COL alumni, and other supporter networks that are interested in volunteering with C OL Meet regularly with program leaders in order to maintain a strong understanding of all Center of Life program operations and needs Identify various types of volunteer activities, including long-term, short-term, and event-based volunteer oppor tunities Develop strategies for retention and sustainability Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the volunteer program with support from Data & Evaluation Associate. Duties and Responsibilities Oversee all volunteer recruitment, vetting, onboarding, orientation, and compliance Ensure all volunteers adhere to COL's policies and procedures, including confidentiality, safety, code of conduct, and complet ion of necessary clearances before working with students Identify , develop, and facilitate relevant Volunteer Training Build and maintain a system for tracking volunteer interest, schedules, feedback and volunteer hours Create and maintain a database of volunteer information, including contact details, skills, availability, an d interests Monitor and track volunteer attendance and participation Act as main point of contact and ongoing support for all volunteers Manage all administrative duties related to the Volunteer Program Work with Marketing & Communication Manager to develop volunteer updates, news, and success stories to foster volunteer interest General Center of Life Expectations: Maintain regular office hours Participate as an active member of Center of Life staff Adhere to all Center of Life's policies and procedures Attend all COL staff meetings, retreats, and mandatory events Meet bi-weekly with Immediate Supervisor Adhere to the security, accuracy and operability of the daily communication and program reporting needs of COL Contribute to the development of a supportive and collaborative work environment. Education and Qualifications : Experience working in a non-profit or community-based organization or agency Demonstrated e xperience managing large teams and collaborating with multiple stakeholders Experience working with K-12 youth and/or engaging with community members Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to various audiences across various means of communication ( I.e. in person facilitation and leadership, email communication, strong follow up) Ability to creatively approach the development of a new program from the ground up Excellent judgmen t, communication, creative problem-solving , and people skills Proficiency with database management software and Microsoft Office ( including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint ) Pennsylvania criminal and child abuse clearances , FBI criminal background , PA Mandated Reporter Certificate and National Sex Offender Registry clearance (COL will assist in obtaining these clearances if applicant does not already have them) A commitment to social justice, racial equity, and community development.
