Cook (Entry Level) Do you love to cook and have a heart for hospitality? Be part of our ministry working in our new kitchen and facility! Since 1952, Light of Life Rescue Mission has been a safe refuge for homeless and hurting people in the Pittsburgh area. We are seeking a full-time Cook to be a part of the Mission's exciting growth as we relocate and offer food services at multiple sites. The successful candidate will be part of a team working in the Mission's new $8 million facility. As well as preparing food, this individual plays a vital role working alongside residential guests, overseeing and teaching them basic food service and kitchen operations. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Cooking and warming meals according to meal plan Maintaining kitchens at multiple sites per direction of supervisor Functioning as a caterer, delivering food Ability to adapt and thrive during peak times of meal prep and service Working alongside residential guests assigned to Meal Ministry This is an excellent opportunity to use your expertise and creativity in planning and preparing meals to serve the homeless in our brand-new, state-of-the-art kitchen and facility. Due to the interface with the clients, all jobs at Light of Life require employees to: Walk alongside clients as a disciple of Christ and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them through actions and words. Establish mutual trust and create a safe, authentic environment so that the clients continue to mature in Christ. Serve the clients in a Christlike manner and practice a self-evaluative lifestyle. Resolve all issues in ways that promote the principles of Light of Life while following the processes described in the LOL staff manual. Exhibit love for Jesus Christ, the staff, and the clients. Study the Christian Bible and apply the knowledge received/revealed to job duties and clients' specific issues. Help the clients make choices that are justifiably in their eternal best interest. Practice Christlike stewardship of all resources. Model personal responsibility, accountability, timely reporting and a self-evaluative lifestyle. Requirements/Certifications ServSafe certificate a plus (will be required to pass test in the future) Valid PA Driver's License with clean driving record preferred, but not necessary Must be able to lift 50 lbs, occasionally Organization and problem-solving skills Strong interpersonal skills; compassionate and patient; able to create a safe and comfortable environment. Education/Experience: High School Diploma or GED Previous cooking experience Additional coursework in food service or culinary arts preferred Previous experience with commercial kitchen equipment helpful An understanding of addiction issues and homelessness a plus Working Conditions/Physical Factors: Occasionally = 1%-33%; Frequently = 34%-66%; Continuously = 67%-100% Standing: Frequently Lifting: Occasionally, up to 50 lbs Reaching: Frequently Climbing: Occasionally Bending: Frequently Equipment / Tools Used: Dishwasher Ice Machine Industrial Slicer Industrial Mixer Buffalo Chopper Ovens Steamers Grill Fire Suppression System Fryer Light of Life Ministries Inc offers a comprehensive benefits package including: Medical, Dental, Vision and other valuable benefits, which begin the first of the month following employment.
