Learn more about us in this video: https://bit.ly/3Jp3Dez and visit our website: https://www.smeinc.com/ Job Snapshot: As a Laboratory Supervisor, this individual manages the daily operation and staff in construction materials testing laboratories (concrete, aggregate, asphalt and earthwork) and is responsible for the coordination and completion of proposals, projects, reporting, and invoicing for laboratory testing projects. The successful candidate must have leadership skills and the ability to work in developing a collaborative team environment; excellent verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated positive relationships with clients, contractors, and coworkers; and a strong work ethic. As a member of our leadership group, this individual is responsible for staff supervision; training, mentoring, and coaching of employees; staffing projects with appropriately trained and certified personnel maximizing staff utilization and project profitability. Management of an AASHTO Quality System; maintaining AASHTO, CCRL and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers accreditation; active participation in our internal QA/QC program and state radiological license for testing radioactively contaminated materials. Performance or coordination of geotechnical laboratory testing including classification, compaction, shear, consolidation, swell, hydraulic conductivity, and compressive strength of rock cores Performance or coordination of construction materials testing on materials such as flowable fill, aggregate, reinforcing bars, masonry, and asphalt Coordination and scheduling of laboratory testing assignments Performing, and/or coordinating others in, timely calibrations and maintenance of field and laboratory equipment to industry codes and standards Maintaining documentation of equipment maintenance and calibrations for compliance with AASHTO Accreditation Program requirements, including internal and external audits Frequent use of MetafieldĀ®, and/or other field and laboratory information management systems, for recording and reporting testing results Communication of field and laboratory observations and testing results with Project Management staff, general contractors, and clients Assisting Project Management staff with review of laboratory testing results and preparation of formal reports Preparation of cost estimates, proposals, and laboratory testing agreements in accordance with project specifications and client-provided requests for proposals Business planning related to staffing, salaries, and capital expenditures Management of testing materials under our Radiation Protection Program for low-level radioactively contaminated materials Required Qualifications: High school diploma/GED Minimum 4 years' combined experience in laboratory geotechnical and construction materials testing; at least 2 years' experience in a supervisory, management or leadership role Familiarity with ASTM and AASHTO test methods specific to geotechnical and construction materials Familiarity with AASHTO R18 Quality Management System (or comparable quality management system) Familiarity with geotechnical and material testing equipment and calibration procedures Ability to routinely lift 40 to 50 lbs. Ability to occasionally work outdoors in varying weather conditions Willing and able to travel out-of-town if needed Preferred Qualifications: Associates Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Natural Sciences, Construction related field, or other appropriate technical field highly preferred (in lieu of a degree, work experience and applicable certifications from nationally recognized certification agencies such as NICET, WACEL, ACI, DOTs, etc. will be considered) Familiarity with processing and reporting geotechnical and construction materials test results using specialized computer software Familiarity with Lab Information Management System software Familiarity with automated testing, data acquisition and instrumentation Why work at S&ME?
