The Municipality of North Cowichan (population 31,900) is located in the beautiful Cowichan Valley on Southern Vancouver Island, between Nanaimo and Victoria. Our communities of Chemainus, Crofton, Maple Bay and the South End are home to a multitude of artistic, cultural and outdoor recreational activities. The Municipality provides a stable and varied work environment, competitive pay and benefits. Join our busy Communications and Engagement Department as a summertime Communications Student on a full-time, temporary basis from approximately May 1 to September 1, 2024. If you are a self-starter, looking to take on a new challenge where you can make a difference, enjoy both responsibility and accountability with one of British Columbia's most inclusive and environmentally conscious municipalities, and keen to put your eduction into practice, we look forward to receiving your application! You will support social media and website content administration, create analytics reports on digital channels, creation of communication materials, and support our public engagement projects. Required skills, qualifications and abilities: Registered as a full-time, post-secondary student at an accredited institution in a related field (such as public relations, marketing, media communications, journalism, etc) during the current academic year (2023-2024) and returning to school full-time in the upcoming academic year (2024-2025). Proof of enrolment will be required and can be included as part of your application package. Knowledge and understanding of communication and/or public engagement practices. Confident using Microsoft Office products. Knowledge of Adobe Create Suite products, and social media platforms and related apps are an asset. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational and customer service skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Previous communications, public engagement, graphic design,.
