Reports to: Senior PastorSupervises: Volunteers and childrenHours: Part Time, 13-15 hours/weekThe Children’s Pastor will oversee the ministry of the church to children through 6th grade and their families. This will include nursery, Kinderchurch, and VKids ministries. The Children’s Pastor will support families and associated ministry teams in order to fulfill the heart and call of Gate City Vineyard (GCV).Position Qualifications· Demonstrates an active and mature walk with Christ, exemplified through a healthy and well-managed personal life, as well as a personal pursuit of Biblical truth. Must affirm the beliefs and core values of GCV.· Exhibits an empathic heart for and love of children. Passionate about the importance of teaching the gospel to children and the early development of a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.· Has an understanding of how to connect well with and teach children. Able to communicate important truths in a simple way that children can understand. Has a basic understanding of child development and the different teaching styles and methods needed for different children. Experience with children a plus.· Recognizes the importance of connecting with and supporting entire family units as well as children.· Values diversity and shows intentionality in ministry plans/philosophies in order to create an atmosphere that welcomes students from different backgrounds.· Able to mobilize volunteers and build teams. Possesses an ability to cast vision, lead and delegate well.· Is a team player with a teachable, servant’s heart with regards to staff, church leadership, and children’s ministry volunteers.· Recognizes the importance of child protection and safety policies in a public environment such as the church and is committed to creating a safe and joyful experience for children at GCV. · Communicates clearly with adults, young people, and children, orally and in writing.· Proficient in computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office, and knowledge of current social media.Job ResponsibilitiesChildren’s MinistryCreate, select, and implement programming and curriculum for children’s ministry (nursery, Kinderchurch, and Vkids) on Sunday mornings for children through 6th grade. Recruit and develop a children’s ministry team of volunteers who are trained and able to teach and care for children in the program. Handle all scheduling and communication with volunteers.Follow and implement appropriate safety protocols for children’s ministry including child abuse/safety training and other procedures as laid out in our Child & Youth Protection Policy handbook. Compliance with these protocols and plans will be reviewed by the elder board and lead pastor on a periodic basis.Oversee potential expansion of children’s ministry, including both programmatic expansion as well as renovation of our building to create a more intentional and safe children’s ministry environment.Serve as the “face” for ministry to children throughout the church, finding ways to build enthusiasm and involvement for family ministry. Seek to increase exposure of children’s ministry program throughout the rest of the church, for example, through children’s sermons and “all in” Sundays.Reach out to families new to GCV and seek to find ways to build their connection to the church. Encourage and equip all parents in their role as primary disciplers of their children.Identify and prioritize opportunities to integrate children and youth into the larger church community through service, ministry, and intergenerational relationships.Plan and implement family-centered events designed to increase connection to GCV community.Lead and implement a summer Vacation Bible School program for childrenChurch Leadership· Be a member and regular attendee of Gate City Vineyard Church· Identify and participate in continuing education opportunities to increase knowledge and skill set· Attend weekly staff meetings, planning days, and any church-wide meetings.· Work closely with the Senior Pastor and the Church Administrator to plan well for ministry events and needs. Be part of the staff team at GCV, encouraging and helping as needed.· Other duties as assigned by Senior Pastor.
