Job Summary The Children & Youth Minister is an essential member of the Family Discipleship team and coordinates children and youth ministries. The Children & Youth Minister works to disciple children and youth remembering that the domestic church is the ordinary means of evangelization. The Children & Youth Minister works to move children and youth from the "encounter" stages of evangelization into the "grow" and "witness" phases of discipleship formation and where possible collaborates with the Catholic school principal and staff. The Children & Youth Minister oversees all voluntary children and youth ministries. Attention should be given to sensitivity to cultural diversity. Essential Job Duties: Develop and supervise voluntary faith discipleship opportunities that benefit parents, children and youth, such as, but not limited to: Vacation Bible School Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Youth Discipleship Groups Youth Retreats and Events Develop, implement and maintains ministry in English and Spanish for the evangelization and catechesis of children age 4 through grade 12. Must be developed with the understanding of the domestic church as the ordinary means of evangelization. Develop and implement parish youth ministry according to the USCCB document Renewing the Vision , focused first on evangelization, community life, catechesis, pastoral care, prayer and worship and justice and service. The core of this ministry will be small groups. Collaborates with the Family Discipleship team to provide family activities that support the domestic church such as, but not limited to: Pet Blessing in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, Breakfast with Santa, Stations of the Cross in Lent, and Advent and Lent celebrations. Recruit and equip adult volunteers with the tools needed to lead small groups, build relationships with and evangelize teens. Recruit adult volunteers to support the logistics of youth programming Plan, organize, and implement parish opportunities and events for youth for socializing, worship, catechesis, and service through our Summit program (e.g., retreats, rallies, annual Diocesan Catholic Youth Ministry conferences, community-building). Connect with altar servers with the goals of building bridges of trust and inviting into family ministries. Connect with children and youth in sacrament preparation with the goals of building bridges of trust and inviting into family ministries. Work closely with the Director of Family Discipleship and other staff members to create a strategy for youth discipleship and evangelization, empower the domestic church and build an environment inclusive of various cultures and socioeconomic realities. Use social media and creative marketing mediums to promote events, engage with teens and communicate with parents. Prepare teens and families for QuinceaƱeras and invite families into parish life; coordinate QuinceaƱeras in collaboration with Liturgy. Collaborates with the Adult & Family Minister to provide opportunities for parents of teens to be empowered as primary catechists. Ensure diocesan and parish policies are followed and executed in all areas of ministry, especially as they apply to the diocesan Standards of Conduct and policies of the Office of Ethics and Integrity in Ministry. Collaborate with local, diocesan, and regional organizations in providing supplemental programming. Along with other pastoral staff, will be responsible for outreach to new and potentially unengaged parishioners Administrative Responsibilities: Develop an effective team of volunteers to serve as ministers to children and youth. Provide opportunities for volunteers to grow personally, professionally, and spiritually in collaboration with Discipleship Formation. Establish and administer an annual budget for children and youth ministries in collaboration with the Director of Family Discipleship. Collaborate with the Volunteer & Event Coordinator to coordinate the use of parish facilities and ensure EIM compliance of volunteers. Collaborate with Administrative Assistant to support needs of ministries. Meet with the Director of Family Discipleship on a regular basis for ongoing evaluation and guidance of the ministry. Attend scheduled staff meetings and other events as required. Other Job Duties: Create and lead the youth leadership program. Design an outreach program to recruit parish youth not involved in other ministries or religious education. Minimum Qualifications: Skills, Knowledge and Abilities (SKA) Understands the role of family as domestic Church within the mission of evangelization. Mission driven and a creative problem solver. Understands Catholic teaching on evangelization as presented in Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the documents of Vatican II, Papal encyclicals, documents of the USCCB, and other relevant Church documents. Knowledge of comprehensive children and youth discipleship ministry. Skilled and proficient in verbal and non-verbal communication (English and Spanish). Skilled and proficient in social media, A/V, and marketing skills. Ability to utilize social media platforms and marketing mediums such as Canva or Adobe Photoshop to create graphics. Ability to operate various word-processing software, spreadsheets, and database programs. Ability to collaborate effectively with others (staff, clergy, religious, and laity). Ability to provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers. Ability to organize, prioritize, and utilize effective time management techniques. Ability to maintain respect at all times. Ability to follow instructions furnished in verbal or written format. Knowledge of team leadership strategies. Public speaking and teaching ability. Ability to work independently. Ability as a spiritual leader, including comfort in spontaneous prayers out loud and over others. Education and Training: Bachelor's degree in theology, religious education, pastoral ministry, or related field from an accredited American university or equivalent in a foreign country. 6-8 years' experience in the management of a Catholic parish Youth Ministry may replace the requirement of a bachelor's degree in theology. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Catholic Requirement: Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing. Licenses/Certifications: Valid Texas driver's license. Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies through the employment period. The parish is an at-will employer, which means employment may be terminated by the employee or employer with or without notice at any time. All buildings and vehicles owned by the parish are tobacco free. Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly. Working on weekends, evenings, and some holidays will be required. Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech including Catholic Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations. Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards. May be required to use personal or parish vehicles to drive to off-site locations. Travelling within and outside the parish to meetings and other events may be required, and travel may include overnight lodging.
