Summary of Responsibilities: Under the general direction of the Children and Youth Supervisor, this role is responsible for providing case management services within the Children and Youth service system. As a caseworker within Children and Youth Services, staff members are responsible for assessing the safety and well-being of children who are referred for services. Utilizing a strengths-based approach, caseworkers assist children and families in developing skills, identifying support, and coordinating resources that contribute to the overall well-being of children and families. Services may be provided in family homes, in schools, and in the community. When families (or children), refuse to cooperate with recommended services to support the overall safety and well-being of children, caseworkers may need to collaborate with legal professionals and pursue legal involvement. In these situations, caseworkers must attend court hearings and provide testimony. Caseworkers are responsible for managing their assigned caseload. Caseloads can vary and the length of service can change as the needs of children and families change. As goals are achieved and safety risks are reduced, services may be closed. Given the nature of the work, no two days are alike and an ability to be adaptable, flexible, and resourceful is essential. Caseworkers are provided with extensive training to ensure that staff members have the needed knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work required. On-call service is required and after-hours work may be needed. Duties are conducted in accordance with all existing policies, procedures, and regulations and in accord with the Mission and Values of the Company. This position has been designated to be a part of the County's CYS workforce for purposes exclusive to the proper handling of consumer information as is required by SAM privacy policies. Essential Functions: Develops positive working relationships with children and families. Assesses safety and risk of children on assigned caseload. Collaborates with children and families to develop individualized Family Service Plans that identify strengths and areas for improvement to ultimately support a child's safety in the home and community. Identifies community and familial resources that can help to support children and families. Prepares required documentation to ensure that services rendered are documented accurately and clearly. Collaborates with other systems including but, not limited to, the legal system, educational system, and medical system. Participates in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and provide effective services. Personal Characteristics: Independent, Tech-Savvy, Responsive, Kind, Ethical, Motivated, Active Listener, Life-Long Learner, Adaptable, Confidential, Resourceful, Values, & Trustworthy Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree with completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; OR two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions Employment Requirements: Automobile and Valid Insurance, Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License, acceptable Motor Vehicle Record Check, Act 33 and Act 34 Clearances, FBI Fingerprint Clearance, Social Security Card, Immigration and Naturalization (I-9), Drug Screening Clearance Working Conditions: Prolonged periods working on a computer in an open office environment, comfortable communicating through virtual technology, and travel throughout the assigned region may occur and may be in adverse weather conditions, must be able to lift to 15 pounds. On-call and after-hours work are required.
