Harris County, Georgia, with a population of 36,000, 465 square miles, and located in west central Georgia along the Alabama border 60 minutes southwest of Atlanta and 30 minutes north of Columbus is accepting applications for Chief Appraiser. This full-time position, under the direction of the three-member Board of Tax Assessors, supervises a department of 9 full-time employees with an annual operating budget of $783,000 and is responsible for the fair valuations of over 20,000 taxable and exempt real property parcels and over 1,800 personal property accounts. This position prepares annual property tax assessments, annual tax digest, examines and corrects errors, hears taxpayer valuation appeals, assists Board of Education and cities with their assessment concerns, interacts with the local Development Authority with bond issues, adheres to the rules and policies of the Georgia Department of Revenue, prepares the annual departmental budget, and attends Board of Tax Assessor's meetings.Minimum qualifications include at least five years of related experience, knowledge of mass appraisals, WinGap and QPublic software, employee supervision and development, computer skills, customer service skills, or the equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work, member of the Georgia Association of Assessing Officials and WinGap Appraisal Group, and possession of a valid driver's license. A Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.
