HCN is a Federally Qualified Health Center located in Collier County on the beautiful Gulf Coast of Florida. HCN has been providing primary care to underserved patients for over 40 years. We provide comprehensive, integrated primary care to more than 50,000 patients at 21 clinic sites throughout the county with more than 75 practitioners. Services include pediatrics, family and internal medicine, an HIV/AIDS treatment program, geriatrics, women's care, dental, and integrated behavioral health. Job Summary The primary purpose of the Certified Nurse-Midwife is to provide care to patients with health maintenance, preventive health measures and health education services, as well as manage the inpatient admission, labor management, delivery, and discharge of essentially normal and moderate risk patients in collaboration with a consulting OB/GYN. This position requires the employee to be a Florida Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with a Certification in Midwifery from the American Midwifery Certification Board, who functions as a collaborative member of the health care team in the delivery of comprehensive health and health maintenance to patients in ambulatory and hospital settings. Responsibilities and Standards Maintains ethical and professional standards deemed appropriate by peers. Assesses and triages patients. Elicits histories and conducts physicals. Performs procedures such as colposcopy/biopsy, endometrial biopsy, IUD inserts and removals with appropriate training. Provides health services to uncomplicated and moderate risk obstetrical patients. Prescribes and dispenses medications and treatments as delineated by the HCN Treatment Protocols and the manual on patient care, "Patient Care Guidelines for Nurse Practitioners", Third Edition, by Axalla L. Hoole, MD. O rders appropriate labs, EKGs, x-rays, mammograms, Dexa scans, or other indicated tests, and be able to recognize abnormal findings. Educates patient on all aspects of health maintenance, including adolescents and adults. Provides short-term, individual, or family teaching on diet, weight control, adolescent birth control, and sex education. S eeks consultation with physician when a patient has a condition which is of moderate risk, and refers patient to physician when medically outside the Certified Nurse-Midwife's scope of practice. Initiates requests for consultation or referral with appropriate professionals, clinics, or other health care resources as indicated according to current policy. Maintains a current DEA prescribing license. Maintains hospital privileges in good standing at North Collier Hospital. Performs other related duties as indicated or when requested by supervisor or medical director. Completes documentation and reviews labs in a timely fashion using electronic medical records. Maintains contact with peers thru electronic communication and/or phone. Attends OB/GYN department meetings and HCN provider meetings Participates in QA/QI and Peer Review. Job Specifications Job duties involve conceptual analysis and the resolution of complex problems and situations. Most responsibilities are stated in terms of objectives to be reached, instead of the specific means by which results are to be achieved. Situations will be encountered that involve the need to determine the problem itself before solutions are proposed. Job requires ability/willingness to be on call for 24 hour hospital shifts. Written and verbal communication skills are essential to job performance, including providing both technical factual information and the objective and subjective analyses of the information. Those receiving the information may be emotional or uncooperative, requiring the employee to resolve the conflict or diffuse tension. May be required to perform the duties of other employees, including supervisors/managers, in their absence. Requires flexibility to provide vacation coverage for other OB/GYN Certified Nurse Midwives, ARNPs or PAs, which may include working in an alternative HCN office than the one they are primarily assigned to. May be required to perform duties and responsibilities not listed in this description, on a temporary or long-term basis Experience Education/Training Level Graduation from an educational program accredited by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB), with at least a Master's Degree in Nursing or Midwifery with Certification as a Nurse Practitioner/Nurse-Midwife Must maintain required CME credits and certification maintenance through the AMCB. Experience of at least one year in an OB/GYN practice Licenses & Certifications Must possess a current Florida license to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. Must be certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB). Must maintain BLS, NRP and other requirements as defined by HCN Credentials Committee. Must maintains a current DEA license. IBCLC (international board certified lactation consultant) or RLC (registered lactation consultant) credentials preferred.
