Florida Certified and Non-Certified Corrections Positions.Stability, Responsibility and TeamworkTo be a Corrections Officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office means you are a member of a team dedicated to providing order and stability to incarcerated offenders.This career path requires tremendous responsibility and provides long term job security.JSO's Department of Corrections is comprised of more than 750 Corrections Officers and civilian personnel. The department includes three correctional facilities all provide secure, humane, corrective and productive detention of individuals incarcerated in Duval County.BenefitsPaid Time Off (Personal Leave) begins at 200 hours per year and tops out at 350 hours per year, 240 hours per year for Military Leave, 12 Paid Holidays, Approximately 15 workdays a month (on a 12-hour schedule) Medical / Dental / Vision plans. Overtime assignments. Defined Contribution Plan – 10% from employee, City of Jacksonville contributes an additional 25%SalaryWhile going to the Academy and during the Field Training Program, Corrections Recruits receive a starting salary of $40,005 annually. First year Corrections Officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office start at $42,110. A Corrections Officer's salary tops out at $67,582 annually. A Corrections Sergeant's salary ranges between $57,277 to $79,402 annually. While a Corrections Lieutenant's salary ranges between $67,299 to $93,294 annually.These base salaries typically increase every year in accordance with applicable collective bargaining agreements. In addition, those in Corrections ranks may be eligible to receive education incentives. Other pay premium includes shift differential, working out-of-classification, state career incentives for advanced training, etc.A $5,000 signing bonus for both certified and non-certified applicants to be disbursed in the following schedule: $2,000 upon completion of the Corrections Training Academy, $2,000 upon completion of the Corrections Field Training Officer (FTO) Program, and $1,000 at the end of probation.Pair your hobbies with your career. Following a probationary period, Corrections Officers have numerous opportunities to move to different assignments.Do you enjoy helping people turn their lives around? Be a part of our Programs Unit and help teach incarcerated individuals important skills that they can use after being released from lock-up. This includes helping them learn to read and write; helping inmates get their GED; teaching basic tips regarding parenting; or teaching substance abuse classes.Do you like dogs? Help the inmates train and care for dogs in the "A New Leash For Life" program or tryout for our K-9 Unit where we have Corrections Officers paired with a four-legged partner to help locate missing individuals in the community.Do you like to sew or build? Help inmates learn a skill set that they can apply toward future job opportunities once they are released. Inmates will frequently help as part of our workforce program and be taught how to sew, build, or train dogs all skills that can be applied to future jobs.Do you seek specialized roles? We have opportunities in various areas from intake to releasing which are important to help keep the department up and running.There are also opportunities in our Corrections Intelligence, Security Unit, Pretrial Services and Home Detention units.The possibilities are truly endless!Working in Corrections is a great starting point in a career in law enforcement.
