Primary Purpose: The Family Shelter Diversion Specialist is responsible for supporting and coordinating requirements and needs between department direct staff and Management. Essential Functions: The Case Worker for Family Shelter Diversion will be responsible for p erforming assessments to homeless and unstably housed populations within Greater New Haven with the goal of diverting people from having to enter shelter, p rovide referral and support to clients being diverted from shelter to help stabilize their households. The Case Worker will need to c onfirm eligibility criteria for any family entering the shelter system, provide client/ landlord mediation and/or family mediation interventions as diversion techniques as appropriate and a ssist in program development and quality assurance activities as directed by the Program Manager, and make recommendations on systems changes to homeless community workgroups, including on best practices, concerns, necessary course corrections, and reporting needs. The Case Worker for Family Shelter Diversion will p articipate in daily phone calls to advocate for prioritization and a ssist families receiving financial diversion with the leasing process, and perform housing inspections to ensure compliance with Housing Habitability Standards and Lead Visual Assessments. Qualifications: A qualified Case Worker for the Family Shelter Diversion program will be Bilingual -English and Spanish required, have an Associate Degree plus 3 years human services experience; Bachelor's degree preferred. They will have a d esire to promote equal access and opportunity for families experiencing homelessness and have e xperience in housing, housing law, and other related areas preferred. They will need to be h ighly motivated, creative with excellent interpersonal skills and crisis intervention abilities and have s trong advocacy, documentation, and computer skills required as well as a bility to work with a team and independently with initiative. The Case Worker will also need a ccess to reliable transportation. Expectations: New Reach team members to h ave a solutions-based approach to presented problems, b e supportive, engaging and encouraging to peers and staff. We are adaptable to change and willing to take on more responsibility. The hours for this role are 8:30-5, Monday through Friday and this position pays between $20 and $22 an hour.
