Boat Captain

The Boat Captain assists with general and daily managerial duties of the Boats. The Captain is required to have excellent skills in both boat handling and maintenance of the vessels. This position is equally divided in sailing and mechanical duties. The successful candidate will be a friendly and safe professional captain who will have several years of experience: working as a captain, aboard power vessels doing similar activities as outlined below, managing maintenance workers to get work done timely and on task, and will have the maintenance skills to carry out the tasks described below. Qualifications and Requirements: Required: o Three years of Marina experience. o Excellent skills in boat handling and maintenance of our vessels. o Post-secondary non-degree award, or four to five years' experience on a boat or ship working up the ranks of ships' mates. o Two or more years' experience as a Captain. o Must be available 24 hours by telephone. o Availability to work weekends and holidays. o Ability to interact and serve a diverse customer population. o Strong sales background. o Must have a USCG Captain's License with a minimum of an Inland rating and 50 Gross Tons, a clean record, and have no objections about being enrolled in a random drug-testing program. o Excellent oral communication skills o Expertise in Maintenance organization and implementation o Open to new ideas, and a "team-player" o Ability to maintain a professional, well-groomed appearance per company standards. o Must look at the responsibility of these boats as if they were their own. Preferred: o 3+ years' experience boat handling preferred. o CPR or related first aid certifications preferred Job Duties: o Adheres to the Gasparilla Inn and Club's 4 Steps to Memorable Service. o Exhibits the Gasparilla Inn and Club's Core Values. Routinely inspect all areas of the vessels. Develop and maintain a professional relationship with all agencies, contractors, vendors, and customers. Assists with the approvals of all work orders for the vessels.. Develop and maintain standard operating and training procedures for the vessels. Ensure and take appropriate action for the proper maintenance of all aspects of the vessels. Respond to wind storm or other emergency events that could damage marina assets or guest property; Ensures adherence to departmental and/or operations policies, procedures and practices. o Assume all other duties and responsibilities assigned. o Steer and operate vessels using equipment such as radar, depth finders, radios, buoys, lights. o Dock and undock power vessels, sometimes navigation through tight spaces. o Alter navigation plans based on weather conditions to keep vessels, passengers and cargo safe. o Inspect boats and ships to ensure efficient and safe operation of vessels and equipment and their conformity to regulations o Maintain all on board equipment, and keep detailed records of daily activities, personnel reports. o Schedule regular engine maintenance. o Upkeep of the complete vessels. o Other system maintenance of the vessels. o Maintain vessels in as new or "ready to go" condition. o In emergency situations, employees may need to change their normal operations and help secure business property, assets and/or vessels safety. o Working Conditions and Assignments: The position requires bending, twisting, kneeling pushing, pulling, and a moderate degree of physical exertion while transporting equipment or guest items of which will be approximately 50 lbs or more with an assist. This position will need to be able to safely drive a golf cart and loud noises and frequent exposure to outside weather conditions throughout the day. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position is full time and regularly requires early morning, late night and weekend shifts.
