About the Role: We have an exciting opportunity for a Bioinformatician to join the Adams Group in the Cancer, Ageing and Somatic Mutation Programme for a 18 month fixed term contract. The scientific research of the group is novel and often complex in nature with an IT component. Your role will directly impact the outcomes of this research. You will be responsible for: Assisting in the planning of new projects, to include detailed plans and timescales for implementation. Actively involved in researching new and novel applications/approaches in the bioinformatics field to directly help the group and the scientific community as a whole. Implementation and completion of bioinformatics projects to include all necessary software development, testing, documentation, training and deployment of systems. Run, maintain and enhance existing Bioinformatics software developed by the group. Ensure excellent communication links are maintained within the Institute and externally through various media to include attending meetings/conferences and giving presentations. To be proficient in software development and keep up to date with the latest relevant coding languages and practices. Trouble shoot problems on a day to day basis to ensure systems run smoothly and to their optimum. About You: You will have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team to collaborate on various projects. Essential Skills: Degree in the areas of Bioinformatics, Biology or Computer Science with a Biology background or equivalent experience. Experience of a scripting language (eg Python) Some software development skills Enjoy working as part of a team Enthusiasm and keen to learn Desirable skills: Some experience of Agile Software Development ideas Software development using.
