The Associate Manager is responsible for the supervision of the inpatient/ post acute SCI/ABI CTRS staff and Recreation Therapy Driver Techs. The Associate Manager works closely with the Recreation Therapy Manager to plan and implement inpatient programming and community events. Advanced management in appropriate utilization of human and fiscal resources necessary. This individual must have the ability to delegate tasks effectively and supervise employees through direct reports. Demonstrates ability to manage patients with a spinal cord injury, brain injury, or other neurodiagnoses to adequately train and mentor staff. Basic research skills are recommended to contribute to program through mentoring, presentations and/or principle or contributing investigator. Good verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail necessary. * Provides consistent internal and external leadership and support to staff, patients, families, and other customers. * Demonstrates responsibility for ongoing leadership, development, and evaluation of the Recreation Therapy Program. * Supervises and monitors CTRS staff across the ABI/SCI/CRU continuum, Recreation Therapy driver techs within the inpatient/post-acute clinical operations, community reintegration outings, and the assigned inpatient special events. * Collaborates with the Recreation Therapy Manager and therapy managers to ensure the functions of the Recreation Therapy Program are within the scope of Shepherd Center's mission including policies and procedures. * Responsible for other projects pertaining to the Shepherd Center as assigned. REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION * Bachelor's degree from accredited program in therapeutic recreation, healthcare, or other related field. REQUIRED MINIMUM CERTIFICATION * Certification by NCTRC as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. (CTRS) REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE * Five years' experience within the field of Recreation Therapy. Manager/supervisor experience would be recommended. REQUIRED MINIMUM SKILLS PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Master's degree preferred . PHYSICAL DEMANDS * Uses body, tools, or special devices to safely, effectively, and efficiently to move, guide, or place patients. Involves some latitude for judgement with regards to precision attained and the selection of what adaptive device(s) to utilize. WORKING CONDITIONS * Normal patient care environment. * Some potential for exposure to blood and body fluids. * Some potential exposure to infectious viruses.
