The University of Washingtons William E. Boeing Department of Aeronautics & Astronautics (A&A) invites applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor position. Assistant/Associate Teaching Professors are non-tenured faculty members who are hired on multi-year appointments with a 9-month service period (September 16 through June 15) that may allow for additional opportunities to teach during the summer. The anticipated start date is September 16, 2024.The expected teaching responsibility portfolio for the Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor position is variable based upon assigned combination of lecture courses, laboratory courses, service and curriculum management. This position will engage partners and collaborators to teach across the range of aerospace subject areas with project-based, multidisciplinary, and interdisciplinary learning. Opportunities exist for coordinating and delivering project-based learning curricula. Educational and manufacturing activities are supported by a full-time instructional machine shop supervisor and a full-time instructional lab manager. A&A offers a highly collaborative culture, with a range of teaching and curriculum-development opportunities in undergraduate and masters level courses.Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, practical, teaching, industrial and/or professional experience in design.The base salary range for this position will be $13,800.00 to $20,000 per month (with a nine-month service period), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Other compensation associated with this position may includea one-time relocation incentive.UW faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. While Assistant Teaching Professors at UW are primarily evaluated with regard to their teaching and service, the successful candidate will be encouraged to participate in the wide-range of research activities in the department and collaboratively across the College of Engineering and the three UW campuses.The successful candidate will join a vibrant faculty conducting multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary ground-breaking research, instruction, and collaboration in controls and autonomous systems, fluids, plasma science and space systems, and materials and structures. We also routinely engage in research projects with affiliates from the regions noted high-tech industry. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to: engage in project-based, multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary teaching, teach and mentor students, and implement a thoughtful strategy for teaching and service that supports our commitment to diversity and inclusion. Qualifications The position requires a PhD or foreign equivalent in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or a related field. In addition, candidates must have demonstrated excellence in teaching.
