Columbia Country Club Chevy Chase , MD Position Title: Assistant Building Engineer Department: Engineering Reports To: Chief Engineer The candidate for this job posting could be described as a "jack off all trades" or a high level handyman. He or she will have good mechanical skills, basic building and component electrical skills, basic plumbing skills and be sufficient in basic computer operations. He or she should have good trouble shooting capabilities. Where the applicant may be lacking in any of the above mentioned areas he or she will need to have the desire and ability to learn them and become proficient in them. The preferred candidate should have some level of commercial and or residential building maintenance experience. The hired person will be able to competently use a computer to research and order supplies and parts and to be able to use the same for correspondence to other department heads and contractors. The applicant, if hired will start work a 6:30am Monday through Friday. On occasion, the start time will be 5:30am. There will be the need to work some overtime, some weekend and some on call hours. This facility is made up of commercial kitchens, restaurants, indoor and outdoor pools, many restroom and shower rooms and several mechanical rooms, just to name a few. The person hired for the job will be responsible for but not limited to repairs to the commercial kitchen equipment, lighting, plumbing repair and basic carpentry. He or she will report to and assist the Chief Engineer and meet with and oversee contactors in his absence. You will be expected to work independently as well as with department heads, managers and contractors and other employees. The applicant is required to be able to lift 60lbs, climb and work off ladders and have a valid driver's license. The successful candidate will be able to understand instruction and communicate with others. Persons with very strong experience or background in one trade and none in any other may likely not be suited for this position. HVAC and refrigeration experience is not required for this position. Replace Repair broken or worn out parts on Equipment Install new equipment Perform preventive maintenance on equipment Repairs, maintains and installs electrical systems and fixtures. Measures, cuts, bonds, threads, assembles Uses hand and power tools. Install new runs of water, steam, and air piping Install new runs of electric to various equipment Must possess the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence Read and understand basic blueprints and electrical schematics Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Applicant will potentially be asked to work on mechanical components such as belts, chains, gearboxes, bearings, shafts, couplings, clutches, electrical cabinets, supplies and circuits. Must be able to sweat and tread pipe Ability to weld is a plus Refrigeration experience is a plus Forklift training is a plus Salary and Benefits Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
