PURPOSE OF POSITION To maintain and construct overhead and underground electric distribution and transmission systems. This Area Serviceman position will maintain our southern territory which encompasses portions of DeWitt, Macon, and Piatt Counties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Area Servicemen, in addition to performing all functions of a Journeyman Lineman, are required to be able to complete the following: Provide basic support in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical substation equipment such as transformers, gas and oil circuit breakers, battery banks, and motor operated switches. Assists in the installation and field repair of all assigned substation equipment. Identifies and becomes familiar with the basic test equipment necessary for the proper operations of the substation equipment. Reads, understands, and interprets (with direct guidance) elementary engineering drawings, manufacturers documents, and other documentation needed for the installation and testing of existing and/or new substation equipment. Learns proper techniques in the troubleshooting of improper operations of substation equipment and associated schemes and makes repairs as required. Documents maintenance records of tested and inspected equipment and substation locations required for compliance. Assists in alerting appropriate personnel of test and inspection deficiencies. Assists in preparing work requests from inspection results. Assists in repair, installation, testing and inspection of other substation equipment as needed. Develops a working knowledge of non-assigned equipment and systems in power substations. Follows safety rules and procedures and assumes responsibility to encourage other co-workers to follow these rules. Performs such other duties as may be assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES May periodically act as foreman to crew in assigned territory. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Successfully completed the Journeyman Lineman Apprenticeship Standards. Possess an acceptable IBEW or similar acceptable Journeyman Lineman Certificate of Completion. Must reside within company-defined service area. For this position, residence area encompasses city and rural areas around Illinois towns: Maroa, Forsyth, Oreana, Argenta,Kenny, Clinton, DeWitt. Valid Illinois CDL-A. CPR certification. Must be willing and able to work extra and/or irregular hours as the needs of the job may require. Must be willing to maintain a minimum yearly call-out percentage of 50%. WORK CONDITIONS Work will be performed inside and outside with the outside work involving various weather conditions. This position requires the individual to perform duties alone a majority of the time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit; use hands, arms, and fingers to handle, feel, or reach; climb or balance; smell, talk, and hear. Employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to climb and descend poles of various heights under various weather conditions commonly experienced in this geographic region. While performing duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and explosives. Must have ability to perform work in all types of weather and during storm conditions, will be asked to work a minimum of 24 hours straight without a sleep break. Job Posted by ApplicantPro
