Develop) AmeriCorps Program at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania! Next Cohort Starts August 26, 2024! AmeriCorps members at BGCWPA will have a unique opportunity to serve with youth. We have programs across the city of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, and Somerset, PA. More about this specific role at BGCWPA: Role Highlights Be Hands-On - You’ll be on the ground implementing day-to-day programming focused on social-emotional learning (SEL), career development, and leadership skills. Literacy & Learning - Utilize Lexia to create personalized learning plans and conduct one-on-one and small-group literacy sessions. Community & Connection - Engage with youth and families to amplify what BGCWPA has to offer and build stronger community relationships. Safety First - Your responsibility will extend to ensuring the safety and well-being of all program participants. Room to Grow - Decide on other opportunities you want to take the lead in, whether that's civic engagement with youth, developing mentoring support groups, family engagement, or involvement in the DEI advocacy group - you get to choose the path! More Professional Opportunities Implement educational programs covering Literacy, STEAM, Mentoring, and Athletics. Participate in professional development opportunities throughout the program Foster an environment that encourages creativity and exploration. Assist with annual youth evaluations. Promote and stimulate membership in the Clubhouse through programs, services, and outreach activities. Offer input regarding department programs, in partnership with the approval of the Program Manager Observe and report any maintenance and operational concerns of the department’s physical property, ensuring Club member safety at all times to the Clubhouse director. Here are some FAQs of the program - What is AmeriCorps?: AmeriCorps is a national organization, run independently through the federal government but spread across the nation!It is also a time when you choose to serve your country and community and can be a great stepping stone in your academic and professional career. How old do you have to be to participate?: Anyone 17 and older can become a member! What are the hours?: This is a part-time opportunity where members can serve anywhere from 12 - 32 hours per week depending on the service slot you choose. Who should apply?: Anyone who is 17 or older, Has an interest in working with youth in your career or is considering this, Is looking to make a positive change in your community! How long is the commitment?: The fall cohort will start on August 26, 2024 with 2 options to end - either at the end of fall or end of spring. Members' hour commitments depend on which time slot you decide to serve. Members must complete their required hours to finish their term and receive their education award successfully. Is this a job?: Nope! This is technically not a job. Think about it more as a "paid volunteer" or "paid internship" experience. Members are committing their time to serve their community and receive around $9 per hour. This can count as internship hours, as well. Wait, what is an education award?: The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award is part of a National Trust members enroll in after they successfully complete their service hours. Members in this cohort can receive up to $1,459.26 towards their school-related expenses or loans.Still not sure what AmeriCorps is? Check out this video to see what it's all about! Requirements/Qualifications Must be at least 17 years of age High school graduate or GED recipient, or working towards attaining during the term of service US Citizenship or permanent residency status (Green Card) At least one year of experience working with children. The ability to create strong relationships with youth in a short period of time An interest in a variety of youth programs including technology, art, sports, STEM, mentoring and recreation Advanced positive customer service skills needed. Must complete a health physical and TB test 3 letters of Reference needed upon selection Clearances Act 33, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR letter. Complete the National Service Criminal History Check. Mandated Reporter Certification within 30 days of hire Be able to attend a minimum of 12 hours of training per year. Complete CPR, Pediatric First Aid during orientation. Strong time management, organization, and project prioritization skills are a must Proficient in Google Suite. The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs function require the following physical demands: lifting & carrying up to 50 pounds, pushing, any/or pulling, climbing to include steps, balancing, stooping, standing, sitting, kneeling, crawling, crouching, and signification fine fingered dexterity. Ability to tolerate environmental conditions: air conditioning, heat, dust fumes, noise, close quarters, etc. Perform additional duties and tasks assigned by leadership/supervisors that follow all AmeriCorps policies and regulations. Term of Service/Time Requirements Commitment to serve a total number of hours in your allotted service cohort: Half-Time members to serve 900 hours total Quarter-Time members to serve 450 hours total Minimum-Time members to serve 300 hours total Members will also be required to participate in AmeriCorps Week activities and local service projects/events Members will be required to participate in a week-long orientation/training prior to their service term Members will be required to attend local service/volunteer opportunities throughout the term Benefits of AmeriCorps Service Members will receive a biweekly living allowance (around $9 an hour): Half-Time Members can receive up to $8,100 divided over the term Minimum-Time Members can receive up to a total of $2,700 divided over the term Quarter-Time Members can receive up to a total of $4,050 divided over the term Education Award: After successfully completing your AmeriCorps term of service and enrolling in the National Service Trust, you are eligible to receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. You can use the award to repay qualified student loans and to pay current or future (within 7 years) educational expenses at eligible institutions of higher education and training programs. Half-Time Members can receive up to $3447.50 Minimum-Time Members can receive up to $1,459.26 Quarter-Time Members can receive up to $1,824.07 As an AmeriCorps member you may be eligible for forbearance on your qualified student loans during your term of service. Upon service completion, receive access to AmeriCorps Alumni benefits and resources Certifications and Clearances CPR, Pediatric First Aid, Child Abuse, National Service Criminal History Check, FBI clearance, NSOR certificate, PA Disclosure and Mandated Reporter certification required upon hire or newer then 6 months. PA Staff Health Assessment and TB Test must be submitted upon hire and before start date.
