Adventure Course Facilitator for Overnight Camp Looking for a summer job that makes a difference, join our 2024 camp staff today! Our overnight camp is a place where energetic and passionate staff come together to provide a safe and positive learning environment for girls ages 5-17. At Girl Scouts of GCNWI camps we have a wide variety of opportunities for you. Campers and staff alike spend the summer living outdoors, trying new activities, gaining independence, and building long-lasting relationships. As an Adventure Course Facilitator, you will be critical to the success of the summer as part of the leadership team and a resource for campers and counselors on the Albert C. Hanna Adventure Course at camp. In this role you will supervise and guide campers and counselors through progressive teambuilding, low challenge course activities, and high adventure course activities. Work Commitment: Our summer season runs from early June through mid-August, including staff training and excluding our fourth of July break. Camp staff that live on-site work from 11 a.m. Sunday morning until 10 p.m. Friday evening every week. Camp staff that commute typically work 40 hours a week between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m., actual shifts vary and will be determined in conversation with the Camp Director. Camp Staff Benefits: The nitty-gritties : Paid summer camp position with 24 hours off each week and breaks every day. Includes optional room and board (yes that’s right you will live on camp and get all your food provided for free!), First Aid & CPR certifications, and a rocking camp staff shirt! Pay range : $690/week if living on site or $17.25/hour/hour if commuting; dependent on qualifications and experience Adventure Course Facilitator Qualifications: Loves to interact with children and has prior experience working with children of various ages Enjoys spending time outdoors and has prior experience working in an outdoor setting Must be 21+ years old and possess a high school diploma or GED 2 years minimum of experience facilitating teambuilding activities and low ropes course programs with a focus on teamwork, trust, and cooperation (3-5 years preferred) 1 year minimum experience belaying (2-3 years preferred) 1 year minimum experience with rock climbing and high ropes course programs (2-3 years preferred) Current ropes course instructor certification (preferred) Must attend, participate in and successfully demonstrate required skills during pre-season mandatory adventure course facilitator training in May. Proof of health physical clearing the candidate for work in a camp setting Willingness to live and work in an indoor and outdoor camp setting, which includes working irregular hours with limited or simple equipment, rustic facilities, wildlife and insects; limited technology while at camp, and daily exposure to sun, rain, and other weather conditions Adventure Course Facilitator Responsibilities: Provide fun, positive and active leadership to campers Help build a supportive environment where campers can grow, make new friends, and try new things Role model problem-solving, collaboration, and initiative to campers Responsible for planning, teaching, coordinating, and carrying out low and high ropes activities. Teach and monitor proper use of climbing tower and ropes course elements and equipment. Follow standard rules applicable to ropes course. Ensure all campers and staff learn and understand all ropes course safety rules. Assist in conducting daily check of climbing tower and ropes course equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good condition. Assist in maintaining records of equipment in the Ropes Course Equipment Log daily, indicating any repairs, and retiring equipment promptly. Assist in the management of the physical operation of all ropes courses and related equipment. Assist with set up of ropes course prior to and during staff training as needed.
