EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree business administration, accounting or finance and 4 years of professional experience in the casino accounting/audit field; OR, Associates degree in accounting or finance and 6 years of professional experience in the casino accounting/audit field; OR, Eight years of professional level experience in casino accounting/audit and operations. 1-3 years of Supervisory experience in casino accounting/audit. Supervisory experience may be included with the years of experience as defined above. SUMMARY The Accounting Manager is a senior level in the Accounting department and is responsible for preparing timely and accurate financial information and month end close while maintaining the highest level of integrity of the accounting records. The Accounting Manager will a ssist the Controller in preparing accurate and timely financial statements on a monthly and annual basis. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Manage the Accounting Team to ensure timely and accurate accounting, reconciling and reporting for cash, inventories, prepaids, fixed assets, payables, accruals, payroll, and related income statement accounts all in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Manage the Accounts Payable team to ensure the prompt payments of all invoices. Develop and maintain accounting processes and procedures to ensure accurate, timely, and relevant financial accounting practices. Ensure the effectiveness of all financial controls. Review new general ledger accounts with Controller and create approved general ledger accounts in Accounting system. Oversee the daily work of the Accounting and Accounts Payable departments and ensure timely and accurate completion of daily activity to the general ledger. Review and post monthly journal entries and as needed, prepare and process monthly journal entries. Review monthly general ledger account reconciliations for accuracy and completeness. Complete monthly general ledger account reconciliations of the Enterprise Cash on Hand, Walking Chip and TITO Liability. Coordinate long term confidential record retention, storage, retrieval, and destruction. Assist in compliance responsibilities of the department to ensure the Casino remains in compliance with GAAP, TICs, and best business practices. This may include updating and /or preparing policy and procedure documents. Complete the Tribal Tax calculations and submission of check request/documentation for payments. Complete the Fuel/Tobacco Tax calculations and submission of check request/documentation for payments. Work with internal and external auditors on a daily, monthly, and annual basis for audit reviews of compliance and to verify financial information. Work closely with Accounting Management Team to ensure timely completion of postings to general ledger for accuracy and integrity. Works closely with other enterprise departments to acquire essential data necessary for the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements. Participate in Promotions, Title 31, and any other assigned committee member meetings. Actively attend, participate, and represent the Accounting department in meetings, trainings and informational meetings on new software, processes and/or internal control. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor. OTHER NECESSARY SKILLS AND ABILITIES Attention to detail and accuracy is essential as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks at one time and work independently with minimal supervision. Knowledge of Minimum Internal Controls, gaming related system, and general casino operations. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Skill in planning and monitoring budget expenditures. Ability to work cooperatively with all departments. Ability to communicate and present ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and written. Must be computer literate, have working knowledge of Microsoft Suite and other computer software program(s). Demonstrate strong organizational skills. Proficient in use of 10 key adding machine and calculator are required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Direct supervision of the Accounting and Accounts Payable Employees. Hiring and terminations of Accounting and Accounts Payable Employees. Prepare annual budgets for Accounting and Accounts Payable Department. Prepare and administer annual reviews of Accounting and Accounts Payable Department employees. DRIVING RESPONSIBILITIES Must have a valid, driver's license and be insurable by the Tribe's insurance carrier. EQUIPMENT TO BE USED Computer, copier, fax machine, multi-line phone system, ten-key adding machine, and other general office equipment. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS May be required to lift to 25lbs.occasionally. May also be required to reach, bend, stretch, kneel, crawl, lift and carry on occasion. Must be able to sit for extended periods. TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS Must be able to handle stressful situations while remaining focused and professional. Must be able to deal with difficult people without losing perspective. Must be able to work productively under strict time restraints with variable deadlines. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in a non-smoking office setting. Position may require occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays. May be required to work over 40 hours per week. Some local and out of town travel may be required for further training and/or for the needs of the position. COMMENTS Tribal Preference and/or Native American Preference will apply. Must be able to pass a background investigation, drug, and alcohol testing as a condition of employment. Must be able to work flexible hours and to take on additional responsibilities when asked. Must adhere to company policies regarding strict confidentiality.
