The Grand Traverse County Road Commission (GTCRC) is seeking to hire an Accountant / Controller to work closely with the Managing Director and Department Managers to develop and maximize budgets, assist with asset management programs and lead primary accounting functions. Who we are looking for: We are looking for a dynamic individual who has a good sense of humor and a strong work ethic. This individual must have a passion for providing the citizens with a quality road system through exploiting ones finance experience along with working with each department in the road commission to meet those goals. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or public administration/business. Their vision of the growing Grand Traverse area and the functions of the Road Commission should be in line with the Managing Director. Governmental/municipal accounting background is desired along with 5-10 years of total experience. CPA is a plus, but not required. The Accountant / Controller must be able to work with other Department Managers to accomplish the goals of the GTCRC. This role will be focused on planning and scheduling long-range goals through budgets and alignment of bids, inventories, contracted work and internal costs. Strong computer and software skills are a must. Fluency in excel is preferred. Flexibility in learning and working with a finance structure specific to GTCRC and the changing needs is required. Who we are: The GTCRC has been in existence for more than 100 years and with the mission of upgrading and maintaining a safe and efficient road system. The Grand Traverse County road system is comprised of 251 primary, 750 local and 224 State miles of road. The Road Commission is housed in a modern facility built in 2001 that features 6,000 sq. ft. of administrative offices, 15,800 sq. ft. of equipment storage, 10,000 T salt storage barn and a MDEQ/EPA approved fueling depot.
