We are currently looking for an Accountant to work within Administration and Payroll.Performs or oversees the development, implementation and monitoring of accounting activity for a department or agency. Analyzes financial information and programs, identifies financial trends, makes recommendations to management, and prepares a full range of financial reports, including specialized or non-standard reports. May serve as lead worker and/or supervise lower level staff. Responsibilities Analyzes business operations, costs, revenues, financial commitments, obligations, etc. Develops, monitors and maintains budget and financial records. Provides advanced-level professional recommendations and financial reports to management. Reconciles accounting data and transactions requiring the knowledge of complex rules and regulations and the use of advanced research and/or problem-solving skills. May assist in development of policies and procedures for assigned area. Serves as job expert or organization resource in assigned areas. Surveys operations to ascertain accounting needs and to recommend, develop, and maintain solutions to business and financial problems using current computer technology. Develops, maintains and prepares periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs. Applies GAAP, state or federal fiscal guidelines, and agency policies to establish tables/records of accounts or financial transactions, review financial data, and assign entries or apply accounting control measures to proper accounts. Establishes tables of accounts, and assigns entries to proper accounts. May supervise less experienced staff. Serves as job expert or organization resource in assigned areas. Performs job responsibilities with minimal supervision. Technical Competencies Knowledge of business operations (AP, AR, GL, Budget functional areas)Skill in Excel and data analysis methodsSkill in using PeopleSoft Queries, Reports, and bank statements to monitor budget and financial recordsKnowledge of budgetary accounting, reporting, state law and proceduresKnowledge of the relationships of GL balance and its subsidiary ledger balances, bank to book, and reconciliation at Funding Source levelKnowledge of the information needs of managementKnowledge of GAAP accounting & financial statements preparationKnowledge of governmental/GAAP rules and accounting theoryKnowledge of best accounting practices, GAAP, state and Accounting ManualKnowledge of business process in the assigned areaKnowledge of the functionality of the particular module and financial systems, such as PeopleSoftKnowledge of the budget tree and other budget control mechanismsAbility to interpret and present data to management teamAbility to retrieve information from the accounting system and identify and investigate discrepancies, and come with suggestions Knowledge of accounting theoryAbility to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writingAbility to accurately prepare accounting entries and adjustments and perform mathematical computationsAbility to act as a mentor Entry Qualifications Completion of a bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university AND Two years of professional accounting experienceORCompletion of a bachelor's degree in a business curriculum which included completion of introductory and intermediate accounting sequence AND Three years of professional accounting experienceORCompletion of a master's degree in accounting AND One year of professional accounting experience Due to the volume of applications received, we are unable to provide information on application status by phone or e-mail.
