Position: Outreach Intervention Specialist - Bilingual (Spanish)Classification: Full-time, non-exemptDate Updated: June 2024Reports to: Director of HIV Prevention and EducationPurpose: The purpose of the Outreach Intervention Specialist is to promote progresstowards consistent HIV Prevention through community mobilization, distribution ofmaterials, and risk reduction supplies.Essential Job Functions:● Using community-level interventions, such as Peers Reaching Out and ModelingIntervention Strategies (PROMISE) and Social Networking Strategies (SNS), tocollect preliminary Community Identification Data (CID): Identify and recruitfocus population for HIV prevention interventions, programs and services● Responsible for recruiting & managing volunteer peer advocates, recruitingPROMISE storytellers, and SNS role models.● Facilitate Entourage, Compass' Young Adult Program, with messaging related toHIV prevention, harm reduction, and LGBTQ+ health equity● Provide HIV/AIDS education and risk reduction to priority populations● Maintain public awareness and involvement● Maintain knowledge of additional social and support services provided by otheragencies in Palm Beach County (Area 9)● Assist in HIV Education sessions● Attend administrative and department meetings● Maintain knowledge of HIV/AIDS Statistics county, state, and nationwide● Maintain knowledge of PrEP, nPEP, and DoxyPEP● Provide Counseling, Testing, and Linkage (CTL) services as needed● Complete data entry for high risk clients and community events in securedatabases● Provide support assistance to FLDOH Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS)● Provide basic non-clinical linkage-to-care and patient navigation for individualsseeking PrEP/nPEP as a practical prevention tool● Assess potential barriers to care and the impact of HIV stigma with rapid HIVtesting clients and those newly diagnosed living with HIV and re-engagingclients● Conduct assessments for high risk negative clients and provide linkage servicesto PrEP and nPEP● Organize the planning and deployment of a creative media plan to educate thepublic about HIV risk and PrEP/nPEP options. Utilize editorial content, paidadvertising, PSAs and social media platforms to raise awareness● Utilize internal referral system for internal linkage between programs and fornew/incoming community members.● Coordinate outreach across Palm Beach County with a focus on prioritypopulations served according to the deliverables.● Work collaboratively with other departments at Compass to expand outreachefforts and increase awareness of Compass services in the community.● Evaluate outreach locations and events for effectiveness for future outreachstrategy.● Complete any other tasks assigned● Maintain confidentiality by securing the doors, offices, and any client-identifyinginformation● Maintain client and constituent confidentiality as outlined in the employeePolicies and Procedures, confidentiality laws and policies are subject to frequentchange by local, state and federal entities● Relationships:○ Within Organization: The Outreach Intervention Specialist willmaintain ongoing communication with the Prevention team andexchange information, ideas, concerns, and utilizeproblem-solving techniques.○ Outside Organization: The Outreach Intervention Specialist willmaintain ongoing contact with members of affiliated agencies;establish and maintain cooperative working relationships withcity, county, state and federal agencies and other relatedgroups.Qualifications● BA/BS in health education, cultural studies, human services, social services orrelated fields. (Year-for-year experience in community health educationdevelopment and implementation may be substituted.)● Bilingual and able to read, write and speak Spanish proficiently● Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, and sensitivity to the needs and realities of peopleliving with HIV.● Attend HIV specific trainings to include PROMISE, Social Networking Strategies(SNS), HIV/AIDS 500/501 updates, cultural competency, and other applicabletrainings● Abide by all state, health district and agency policies regarding confidentiality ofpatient information● Cooperates as a team member● Possesses problem solving and decision making abilities● Good counseling skills● Strong work ethic● Familiarity with current HIV/STI programs● Must have flexibility with regard to work hours as some nights and weekends arerequired.● Candidates having a shared identity with the population served, stemming frompersonal experience will be given strong consideration.Physical and Mobility Requirements:● Position requires occasional travel in the local area.
