Permanent, Full-Time, Non- Exempt position Annual Salary Range: $59,982 - $83,975 per year Under the direct supervision of the Residential Program Coordinator, this position is responsible for the supervision of program residents in an ASAM 3.1 level treatment program. Residential Counselors provide daily therapeutic activities; offer ongoing support and advocacy; and implement individual and group skill building interventions while maintaining a therapeutic, safe, and healthy environment. 45% Supervise residents and activities, ensuring safety in a therapeutic, healthy environment 40% Assist residents with development of daily life skills and achievement of their individual treatment plan goals 5% Supervise adherence to resident centered plan and program schedule 10% Documentation of services ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS Provide ongoing support and direction to residents as needed. Transport residents to appointments and community activities as needed. Prepare and maintain all necessary documents including progress notes, time sheets and incident reports in a timely manner. Assignment, assistance, and supervision of resident’s daily tasks, including instructions and assistance in learning skills necessary to complete their tasks. Provide crisis intervention as needed. Plan, shop and prepare meals involving residents as much as possible. Maintain a clean and orderly living environment while also assisting residents in their involvement in household chores. Ensure that all house rules and program policies are followed. Assist residents in planning activities and leisure time pursuits. Confirm that residents properly store and take “keep on person” medications. Document that residents adhere to all prescription medications as applicable. Attend required meetings, classes, and trainings. Daily communication with other staff members to relay any information that will provide insight and better understanding of resident issues or the running of the household. Assist residents in following their sobriety plans. Administer and log resident breath analysis tests (BA’s). Administers and logs BA’s and saliva and urine tests provided to residents. Reports positive tests to Supervisor/Clinical Staff. Logs in and out visitors Recognizes resident violations of rules and policies and follows through, when needed, with a clear, concise written report (incident report) of the facts. Assists in development of on-campus or community-based Community Work Service projects for residents who are not yet working. Performs daily room cleanliness checks and completes logs . Filing as needed. Provides first aid, transportation and direct supervision of residents, when required, for medical emergencies. Maintains and updates the daily resident sign-in and sign-out log. Provides accountability for and tracking of residents while in the facility and out in the community. Other duties as assigned. COMPETENCIES: All direct service staff must complete the following competency-based training: Areas that reflect specific needs of person served, including: Monitor for safety Modeling appropriate behavior Ability to provide education and direct support to residents in areas of personal hygiene, activities of daily living (ADL), and nutrition. Treat residents with respect, engage resident. Person-centered skills that are appropriate to the position. Implementation of resident centered plan for stabilization and skill building for recovery. Resident Interviewing skills. Understanding of program-related research-based treatment approaches. POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: Attendance/Punctuality Demonstrates reliable work attendance. Consistently arrives, ready to work, at appointed time. Consistently complies with break and meal schedules. Consistently notifies Supervisor of illness within the appropriate time frames. Accepts a fair share of unscheduled work when warranted by increased workload. Confidentiality/Ethics Protects resident privacy when providing care. Protects information of a confidential nature (including Protected Health Information & administrative/agency information). Assures appropriate physical and psychosocial support of resident/family in crisis. Considers each resident’s values, lifestyle, and/or spiritual needs. Intervenes as residents advocate when appropriate. Demonstrates knowledge of Resident’s Rights/Responsibilities. Adheres to the GASTINEAU HUMAN SERVICES and NADAAC Codes of Ethics and Conflict of Interest. Adherence to GASTINEAU HUMAN SERVICES Policies and Procedures and operational guidelines and local, state, and federal rules and regulations. Guest/Employee Relations/Appearance Interacts courteously with resident/family/visitors, including explaining role. Participates in identification of problems at GASTINEAU HUMAN SERVICES and contributes to group problem solving. Utilizes appropriate channels of communication for conflict resolution. Promotes harmonious relationships and favorable attitudes among work team. Gives and accepts feedback in a constructive manner. Wears appropriate, clean attire and maintains good personal hygiene. Attire does not interfere with the safe delivery of care. Safety Knows location and use of emergency equipment (fire alarms, extinguishers, etc.) Knows correct procedure to report a fire or emergency. Demonstrates knowledge of Disaster Plan. Maintains on file a current emergency phone contact for use in disasters. Participates in emergency drills. Identifies and reports any unsafe conditions in a timely manner. Contributes to GASTINEAU HUMAN SERVICES’ tidiness and readiness for emergency response. Continuing Education Responds positively when learning needs are identified. Completes mandatory annual training and in-service programs. Must maintain First Aid, CPR and AED Certification. KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS Must be familiar with software used to complete required database entries, prepare statistical reports, and complete automated forms and basic word processing duties (i.e. Microsoft Outlook/ Teams/Access/Excel/Word). Ability to learn and use an electronic health record. Knowledge of community resources and a working knowledge of the Department of Behavioral Health. Ability to present a polite, professional demeanor when dealing with the public and other agencies. Appropriate boundaries and professional use of self-disclosure. Demonstrate the use of appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication in managing conflict resolution in high anxiety situations. Ability to apply appropriate positive/negative reinforcement principles when dealing with all residents. Ability to accept supervision, collaborate with coworkers, and demonstrate professional growth. Should be cognizant of cultural issues unique to Alaska. Familiarity with local medical and social services agencies. Familiarity with substance abuse issues and treatment methodology. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must be 21 years old. Requires high school diploma or equivalent. Two years’ experience providing direct service in the field of human services, preferred. Ability to work effectively with persons experiencing addiction. Must have or obtain one of the following certifications within the first three years of employment: Chemical Dependency Technician II (CDC-II) or higher; or Behavioral Health Aid certification; or Full Peer Support Certification Requires two background checks, current Alaska Driver’s license, pre-employment urinalysis, and being insurable by GHS auto insurance.
