Title Dept. of Elementary and Early Childhood Education, Instructor/Assistant Professor of Literacy Education (full-time, temporary, 1 year) Rank Instructor Tenure Information 1 year Temp Department Summary The Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education offers a variety of accredited programs including Bachelor of Science in Education in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education, and Master of Education leading to initial licensure and professional licensure in Reading (Reading Specialist and Language, Literacy, and Culture concentrations) and Elementary Education (include STEM and technology concentrations). Essential Duties The Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education at Bridgewater State University invites applications for a full-time, temporary Instructor in Literacy Education. Responsibilities include Teach undergraduate and graduate clinically based reading/literacy courses, and early childhood history/social science courses to a diverse population of students Advise undergraduate and graduate students Supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate practicum students Participate in the development of departmental curricula Participate in department meetings, serve on faculty committees, support initiatives, and adhere to all institutional policies. Demonstrates competence in equitable practices that support students from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of abilities. Collaborate with colleagues to ensure proper alignment of related courses. Required Qualifications Doctorate in Reading/Literacy, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field is required by the start of employment. At minimum if the doctorate is in Curriculum and Instruction, a master's degree in reading/literacy. Experience working with diverse student populations from a wide range of age, ethnicity, national origin, and ability Equity and Inclusion statement shows evidence of equitable strategies that promote anti-bias and anti-racist practices Experience as a full-time classroom teacher in grades preK-6 Commitment to excellence in teaching and advising that enhances an environment of equity, diversity, and inclusion. Experience teaching literacy, or holding a literacy leadership role Experience incorporating social-emotional learning strategies in teaching Preferred Qualifications Emphasis on teaching pre-K through grade 3 Experience as a practicing consulting teacher of reading, reading specialist/ interventionist, or a literacy coach Experience teaching history and social science topics in the early childhood setting Possession of a teaching license that falls within the grade levels of pre-K through six Possession of a teaching license for reading/literacy specialist, consultant teacher of reading, or similar Experience using critical literacy theory to explore history and social science topics Experience with the Social Justice Standards Experience teaching higher education courses in literacy, or K-12 literacy leadership role working with adults Teaching experience and/or research that includes a focus on digital literacy and incorporating technology for teaching literacy in the pre-k through 3 Experience teaching online courses and/or demonstrated competency using web teaching technologies Participation in scholarly activities, including research, conference presentations, in-service workshops and/or education-related community service Special Conditions for Eligibility Please be aware that employment at Bridgewater State University is contingent upon completion of a successful background check.This position is not eligible for H-1B sponsorship.
