For over eight years, Dwight Summer Day Camp has been providing campers with an outstanding day camp experience. We have beautiful facilities, including a six-lane pool, visual and performing art studios, and more, but the most critical ingredient of our program is our exceptional staff. Your energy, enthusiasm, care, and dedication create an atmosphere where campers feel included, supported, and nurtured. Your contact with campers throughout their day, and all during their time at Camp, has the potential to impact their lives significantly. We strive to make each day count for every child and to be worthy role models. We expect all staff to encourage children to make good decisions, try new things, develop friendships, and to support each other in big and small ways. We expect all staff to recognize and applaud campers’ accomplishments whether it is a home-run in softball, a creative art project, or a demonstration of kindness they have shown to someone else. Campers range in age from 4 to 12 years old. Dwight Summer Day Camp runs for eight weeks: Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. Summer Camp Bus Driver, Immediate Hire Seasonal Summer 2024 Part Time 20-30 per week Position Summary: Consistent with the Dwight School mission and vision of the Dwight Summer Day Camp, and in cooperation with other Dwight Summer Camp staff, under the direction of the Day Camp Director, the Bus Driver will provide leadership to the transportation sites of all summer program routes. The Bus Driver will be responsible for providing safe transportation to and from program sites. The Bus Driver may also need to provide support in other areas as needed. Compensation: $25-$30.00 per hour, commensurate with experience. Essential Functions: Ensure a safe and risk free environment at all times while meeting the individual needs of the campers. Assist in providing safe transportation for all off-site trips. Be familiar with bus routes, schedules and general areas, keeping routes on time. Manage the overall safe performance of buses: conduct proper daily safety inspection of the vehicle including: recording gas level, mileage and maintenance on designated forms; evaluate before and after trip checks each day and record all information; clean out the bus each day. Refuel buses on a regular basis. Promote safety at all times by keeping first aid kit and emergency road kit fully stocked. Ensure proper loading, unloading and tracking of campers. Ensure the use of child safety restraints required by state law. Ensure proper verification procedures for evacuation of the vehicle based on the type of vehicle and ages of the campers served. Ensure the developmentally appropriate practices applicable to the behavior management of campers during transportation. Ensure that bus rules are announced and followed throughout each trip. Communicate regularly with other bus drivers. Keep supervisor informed of decisions and refer unresolved situations to Dwight Summer Director Qualifications: Desire and ability to work with children, must have the ability to drive a bus and be knowledgeable of the rules/guidelines involved in driving a bus, and must have the ability to respond to emergency situations and have the visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to activity. Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information Minimum 21 years of age High school diploma or equivalent preferred At least 3 years of experience driving a vehicle Certifications Required: Before the start of 1st shift: New Hire Orientation: Camp introduction, team building/planning, and paperwork Current, Class CDL with P&B endorsements clean driving record (e.g., no DUI, no more than three violations in a rolling three-year period, etc.), signed driver agreement form; if contacted for an interview, must bring a copy of your most recent driving abstract (within 7 days of scheduled interview) Current Department of Transportation Medical Card We are committed to making our recruitment practices barrier-free and as accessible as possible for everyone.
