Azure Research - Systems is a world-class research group embedded in Azure that pushes the limit of software systems for cloud platforms. We focus primarily on improving the efficiency of the cloud infrastructure across the entire Hardware and Software stack. We collaborate very closely with production teams in Azure to deploy our research and have tremendous opportunity for impact. For example, we are exploring next-generation power efficient datacenter designs across the entire stack, from the individual node hardware, to the software stack, and to the entire datacenter architecture and its interaction with the power grid.As a Research Software Engineer II, you will work with other engineers and researchers to create innovative research prototypes; help transform project guidelines into concrete system architectures and implementations; build large-scale production systems; and, as you become more senior, mentor new team members in support of their career goals. Qualifications: Required Qualifcations: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, Rust, or Python. Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Additional / Preferred Qualifcations: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Pythono OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Pythono OR equivalent experience OR PhD in Computer Science, in the areas of computer systems, architecture, or distributed systems OR equivalent experience Background in computer architecture, especially in power and performance management. Experience developing, debugging and maintaining code in C++, C#, or Rust. Experience in analyzing and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems. Experience in critical production online service environments. Experience in cloud infrastructure development. Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
