(This position runs 6/17/24-11/8/24) GENERAL FUNCTION : Assists in all aspects of our event coverage and programming as part of C-SPAN's Campaign 2024 politics coverage. RESPONSIBILITIES : Assists Producer, Politics Editor and Executive Producer in tracking presidential, Senate and House candidate campaign schedules and information. Makes inquiries to campaigns. Schedules Zoom, studio and phone interviews with editorial guidance from Producer and Political Editor. On a daily/regular basis, collects and assists in producing interviews, campaign ads, House and Senate debates, social media posts and other relevant material for our platforms, including 2024 Campaign Trail and our studio programs. This includes assisting with researching and typing graphics, evaluating video for content and quality, and basic heads-and-tails editing video for air - all under the supervision of the Producer or Political Editor. Takes an entrepreneurial approach in bringing coverage, programming and social media pitches to the Political Editor and Executive Producer. Serves as studio control room Production Assistant for any politics programming, including candidate interviews, studio-produced programming around live events and primary/caucus night coverage. This includes handling phones for call-ins. Other duties as assigned. BACKGROUND/SKILLS : Bachelor's degree, preferably in Journalism, Communications or Political Science. Interest in and knowledge of campaigns and politics. Flexibility to work varied schedules, including days, nights and weekends. Ability to work independently as well as under the direction of Producer and Politics Editor within strict time constraints. Adherence to high quality control standards. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Solid organizational, grammatical and spelling skills. Proficient typing, computer and research skills. Ability to follow directions accurately.
