The Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana (RHI), named Best Rehabilitation Hospital in Indiana in 2022 and 2023, provides quality rehabilitation services to those facing life-changing injuries or illness. We specialize in the areas of brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury and complex medical conditions. RHI is the only Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Model System in the state of Indiana and one of only 16 in the U.S. Our campus on the west side of Indianapolis specializes in inpatient and outpatient evidence-based, patient-centered therapy for ages 15 and older. SUMMARY This Nursing Rehabilitation Technician-Nights position will provide selected direct and indirect patient care activities for those members of the rehabilitation population from age 15 upward not in need of constant attention of a licensed professional. The incumbent functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team under the direct supervision of a licensed rehab team member, to provide patient services. Understands and exhibits the principals of service excellence, leads by example, and mentor's others in the performance of their assigned duties. Additionally, understands that every employee is responsible for exhibiting exceptional customer service by answering call lights on the nursing unit and if not able to assist personally, will inform the appropriate employee regarding the patient's need. Understands the role of employee's individual position regarding HIPAA requirements and level of access to Protected Health Information as defined in HIPAA hospital-wide policies. Understands that it is the responsibility of every RHI staff member to provide patient safety as a priority response according to RHI evidence-based practices. Encourages patients to be actively involved in their own care as patient safety strategy. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Observes and reports patient comfort and safety needs, potential problems, and behaviors with an awareness of the needs of the patient in order to provide input to the staff nurse in an organized efficient manner for use in patient assessment and care planning. Recognizes and reports changes in a patient's health status. Understands and follows patient plan of care within job limitations including completions of items on the tech assignment sheet and completes other unit duties as assigned or unassigned. Administers personal care to patients, including bath and skin care. Demonstrates fundamental understanding of rehabilitation concepts to meet elimination, nutritional and psychosocial needs of assigned patients. Demonstrates ability to handle patients at all developmental and cognitive levels with patience and tact. Encourages patients to be active in their care. Responds consistently to direction of licensed clinical professionals in a positive manner. Demonstrates good judgment in setting own priorities in adapting work schedules and assignments. Responds quickly to call lights for all patients and offers other team members help without them asking. Other duties as assigned EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or equivalent CNA or allied health professional preferably within a rehabilitation setting. Experience as a military medical corpsman or another recent patient contact position will be considered. Min 1 year of medical assistant Must have CPR training in accordance with American Heart Association standards prior to hiring and maintain current thereafter. STUDENTS/CONTINUING EDUCATION STUDENTS Persons in nursing school must have successfully completed a minimum of nursing fundamentals prior to consideration for this position and provide proof of such completion. Persons continuing professional education in a specific clinical discipline may have the expertise needed for this position.
